Sanjay Gupta: Don't Laugh, It's a Good Pick!

gupta.jpg The CNN personality is Obama's pick for Surgeon General. I like it.

If you believe, as I do, that the Surgeon General's top job in the Obama Administration will be convincing Americans that the obesity epidemic is a real crisis, Sanjay Gupta is your man. I know, it's easy to lump him in with Dr. Phil and all those other lightweight TV "doctors." But the man has tackled obesity before, is a university professor, advised Hillary Clinton on health policy when she was First Lady, and most importantly, has the pitchman skills to get Americans moving. You could even argue that having TV talent is the top requirement for the Surgeon General at this time. And dare I say it, you would be correct.

Michael Moore's a dick, but I'm still not sure about Gupta.

It IS a good pick. Now, EVERYBODY at CNN is on the payroll.

The guy is a neurosurgeon for crying out loud unlike the other so called "light-weight" doctors and by that I mean MD not PhD.

Neurosurgery is one of the most difficult to get into residency and most grueling ones and it takes around 6-7 years after medical school.

So be careful before comparing him to the other MD doctors on tv.

With regards to health policy I am not familiar with his work and so cannot comment on that or his ability to perform
as a surgeon general.

Well again people can't tell the diff between a Psychiatrist and Psychologist or an Opthalmologist and Optometrist. But believe me having worked with some neurosurgeons as a medical student its tough.
