Take a Deep Breath. Senate Won't Mark Up Climate Bill Until September

Senator Barbara Boxer was expected to introduce a version of the Waxman-Markey climate bill in the Senate this month but Greenwire reports that she's going to wait:

The California Democrat told reporters that many senators are focused this month on health care reform legislation, prompting the delay from her original plan to hold a vote before the August recess.

Phew. Now everybody gets another month to stress out about this.

You know Josh, Mother Jones is so highly respected that the congressmen who serve the fossil fuel burning special interests will be quoting this as a good reason not to rush regardless of how facetious you said it.

After all, this has been going on for well over 50 years and the global temps are still "acceptable." They have already gotten away with marginalizing the "Drying of the West" article Feb 2008 National Geographic as alarmist propaganda, and besides, any firestorms that may be caused by increasing drought conditions never seem to exceed acceptable congressional standards for losses of life and property.

So when do you think you will be able to say "Time Is Up!"

L'AQUILA, Italy - President Barack Obama said Thursday the global recession makes it harder to strike an international agreement to battle dangerous temperature increases, but he urged the poor emerging economies that rejected specific clean-energy goals to "fight the temptation toward cynicism" and embrace them soon.

"There is no contradiction between environmentally sustainable growth and robust economic growth," Obama said at the conclusion of a forum of the world's 17 major economies, which account for about 80 percent of emissions of heat-trapping gases blamed for global warming. "We can either shape our future or we can let events shape it for us."

"The fact is that the climate course set by Waxman-Markey is a disaster course. Their bill is an astoundingly inefficient way to get a tiny reduction of emissions. It's less than worthless, because it will delay by at least a decade starting on a path that is fundamentally sound from the standpoints of both economics and climate preservation."

Josh, obviously there is the usual lack of interest in responding to your latest very important column on another of the never-ending major failures by our (special interests controlled) congress against humanity.

However, I do encourage you to continue your efforts to protect and preserve humanity Josh, just to show that the spirit of Mother Jones' "Fight Like Hell For The Living" still lives on in a few of us.
