Brodner's Person of the Day: SChip

October 4, 2007

Brush Clearing of the Day

In an astounding confluence of callousness and stupidity we see the Bush presidency in perfect microcosm. SChip would have provided needed health care to working-class and poor children throughout the country. Bush used a veto yesterday against the bill, defying Republicans like senators Grassley and Hatch who had worked this carefully through the process. Hurting children (and his own party), Bush chips away. This is his explanation in today's Times: "My job is a decision-making job and as a result, I make a lot of decisions." Now I get it.

An override is possible in the Senate. But support is still a dozen or so votes short in the House.

I'm not interested in promoting any party but am with the Dems on this issue. Here's a link to Ted Kennedy's site, where you can join the petition drive on this bill.

"My job is a decision-making job and as a result, I make a lot of decisions." Yogi Berra couldn't have said it better.
