Either before Bush was elected or just after I heard Pete Peterson say something like this, "Bush will feel he's successful if he's emptied the treasury so that there's no money left for liberals to pour into entitlement programs." I think he said this during a Charlie Rose interview. Does anyone know how can I find this quote?

Bobr900: Your points about NAFTA, CAFTA, etc. have their validity but the Bush tax cuts had a huge effect in elevating the National debt, hence increasing borrowing and the budgetary cost of servicing the debt, and pummeling the dollar into pulp.

I recently responded to Mr. Peterson's comments on Bigthink.com and then I found this site. Here is a wise economist. He understands the disconnect between the future and today's election. The leaders of both parties know that to address or even mention this problem is to committ political suicide. We need more wise sages to come forth and focus the attention of the nation on these very real and uncomfortable topics. Al Gore's documentary has it right in the title "inconvenient truth" !

Isn't it strange that a chairman for CFR and head of the NY Federal Reserve cautions us towards financial solvency. The Fed's trademark is controlling the money supply the longterm effect of which is ever greater inflation of our currency. It seems to me these folks want us to avaoid looking at the "man behind the curtain". No doubt the prostitutes we call legislators have only added to the deficits and overwheming debt being passed on to our children, but the Fed has played perhaps the biggest role through the devaluation of the dollar which now may go into free-fall after losing it's priviledged status as the oil "currency". The Council of Foreign Relations of course also is destroying this nation's economy. NAFTA CAFTA the NAU are are gutting what's left of america's manufacturing base and helping eliminate the middle class. Sure, point out the curruption of politicians, but as the earlier commenter notes there is little remorse when the deeper responsiblities Mr Peterson shares for the demise of this nation are conspicuously absent from this discussion.

Sounds like one repub is beginning to develop a conscience. What he doesn't realize is that he is way too late and way to feeble.
And exactly why does he now show a smidgen of caring about anything except endles greed for money and political power; the only things a repub ever cares about.
And why does he care about his children and grandchildren, they must also be wealthy. Niether he nor his children live like the restof us, or ever will.
And exactly how much of our tax dollars are in his bank account.
He is one of the peoplewho put Baby Bushin office, will put Jeb Bush in office as they are all in the same club of the greedy for money and political power, all done at the expense and or death of others.
And just look at his credentials, Nixon, The Council On Foreign Relations, The Federal Reserve and only he knows what else.
This guy is another piece of repub scum trying to assuage his conscience.
Maybe he could get together with the other enablers of the Bush Republican crime family and commiserate, people like the Pope and Pat Robertson so they can decide whats best for the rest of us who have no sayin what is to become of us.
Greed is what these people are all about, while the rest of us pay the price.
And this guy says the repubs have, wait for it, 'lost their moorings'. That is a galling understatement. This guys whining means NOTHING to me. I'm far too busy trying to figure out how to stay alive just a while longer so I can vote to save America from him.

Do any of the aforementioned have any conscience at all, any sense of responsibility for what they have done, any shred of HUMILITY. Not a damn bit, they don't...

Mr. Peterson you are an atrocity and an abomination unto all of mankind.Your god(small g)is greed for money and political power.
