My experience with some displaced Iraqi children revealed they had such disrupted educations, and poor concentration due to the traumas of what they had been through, that they re-entered school with little confidence and were more likely to drop out. They were consumed with adult issues - worrying about whether their parents and their family were safe. There was no time to dream about becoming doctors, engineers and so on. That was a tragedy ini itself.

The article's headline is misleading. Only a small part of the story deals with militias apparently controlling schools, and that information comes from just one source. This story needed better research and more sources. A "phoner" story isn't good enough.

Absolutely, an important topic we need to face. Great article! Anyone is welcome to visit the following website. There you can find info on a new documentary that is co-produced by me. We want to explore Iraqi refugee issues like this one.

How sad really. Think about them as if they were your children (if you can). How would you like it if your children's lives, illusions, goals, at such a tender age, were already shattered. Wouldn't you hate the guilty ones? Wouldn't you want to hit them also? When the rest of the world ponders about this huge crime, we cannot but wish that those who planned and carried out this war crime be sent to Dante's hell, to the lowest, the darkest corner in it. If there are world leaders presently that embody superlative evil, absolute callousness and indifference toward suffering, they are in Washington: both in the White House and Congress. They only care about their own base objectives; for they do not even worry about their own citizens' welfare (Katrina). America, how many more crimes are you going to allow your representatives to commit in the name of God? civilization? democracy? freedom? the flag? It is sick to hear the same litany again and again, but it is even more frightening and depressing to see that the prosperous, the enlightened, the generous American public does nothing, sees nothing, hears nothing. What is the relevant question you want to hear? Do you want the rest of the world to debase ourselves and start musing about what happened in the latest Idol sequel?
