part of me wants to join in the fray blasting blackwater, but then I remember the company I'm keeping here- this is the Mother Jones group who devote an entire issue to "anatomy of a lie" (Iraq was justification)with a fancy timeline full of events with little icons.. like "bad intel" and other cute sayings... which curiously did not have an icon titled "lie", as this would have to be accompanied by an explanation that they had contrary information at that time.
This is the same group whose parents spit (allegedly,accounts are disputed on spitting but they treated them like dog****) on returning soldiers from Vietnam, 99% of whom committed no crime other than doing what they had to do to stay alive.
So now you're all up in arms about private contractors fighting wars for us. Not accountable? Like Lynndie England, who Sy Hersh knew goddamn well was 100% within her orders when he uncovered "copper green" but when he got cute and tried to embellish a "Darth Rummy" aspect to spice it up, the Pentagon denied everything and left Lynndie the fall girl rather than get sucked into Sy's mess?
Well hooray for Blackwater, because the way pesceniks will take even the most obvious of villains (Saddam, communism) and place them on an altar if they can gain political capital out of it, they have made the idea of serving your country for a salary of about minimum wage an endeavor every generation finds less and less attractive.
So somebody has to get paid to shoot people for your right to blast them for it, and you expect a bunch of Pollyannas to flll those positions.

Reading your comment only enshrines my opinion that Blackwater is an operation that must be stopped.

It's the "private" factor that you even speak about plainly in your comment one of the reasons Blackwater is dangerous. Yes, you cannot possibly praise Blackwater for their operations when you clearly state yourself that they're too "private" to comprehend.

Would you know if Blackwater was tanking hundreds of Iraqi civillians overseas for no determinable causes?

my husband just returned to iraq working for Blackwater.......before another comment is posted, please define the word "mercenary"....How do YOU really know anything about Blackwater? They are an extremely private company...I assure you that any incident that involved Blackwater, it's employees, diplomats, or any other particular event that could possibley happen, other than a typical day in "A WAR ZONE", is documented in detail, and handled by the proper autorities within and outside of the agency. Blackwater still operates full force, and trust me when I say,"Iraq is still only the begining to an end." If you want "peace" expect "war". Blackwater is a security company, working hard to keep those safe who find themselves entering and leaving OUR war zones.........Isn't taht cool? A private company with military trained professionals who will still risk thier lives to help keep you and yours safe....

Yall don't see all the good that the peopl of Black Water does. They go out more then the infaltry or the secrity team does. They might do some things that don't seam right at times; but for there defince you have not been train tere for yu don't no of what you
speak. How of no sin cast the first stone. The united stats army does its part to help as does Black Waters. I will gladly let Black Waters ride with me on any of my mission, because I know that they will perform to standers.

Actually, I could swear that, in this very article, Bruce Falconer is careful to inform that "...Adame claims to speak from personal experience. As a State Department official in Iraq, he was protected by Blackwater, which, he says, used excessive force on at least two occasions while he was in their care."
And, most certainly, Mr. Adame is not the only person with similar testimony.

The United states has a military. A legitimate military. Blackwater and triple canopy and all the mercenary groups are not legitimate and should be outlawed. If I see Blackwater in my neighborhood I will consider it an invasion.

Ask yourself who these mercenaries fight for - it isn't the United States. Why wouldn't we just conscript soldiers into the military and pay them less - many times less, if we needed more soldiers for the United States? The reason we don't is that consripts would be under the authority of the Military. They'd fight for and protect the government. But Blackwater is under the authority of the Executive Branch - they fight for the Executive - and THAT should put fear into your hearts. This is a "pretorian guard" - overpaid, over-armed, over-utilized Corporate, for-profit business. No wonder congress fears the Preznit. And if the Executive branch can't hire them, they get hired by multinational corporations. Don't worry though, the administration (or will it be the multi's?) will soon be using them, as "agents provocatuers" to stir up another war, to protect the business of the executive and military industrial complex, for the 1000 year war that keeps the stock market safe and intereste rates high on the trillion dollars it costs every five years.
