I noticed a possible typo in this essay about Mother Jones you might want to confirm or clarify. Should it say class-driven? Instead of class-riven? Great story though, very insightful!

My mother was also a trade union organizer of the workers, and loved very deeply by the ordinary people. However, while she organized she found the injustices facing women workers, such as unequal pay for equal work, and some times made our houshold jump and start working with her comments of what am I around here, a slave. To which we all jumped up and started sweeping the floors and doing dishes and tidying up etc. She made the house revibrate. Well after much work-organizing she went to the workers in a big department store, her department being hardware, and the workers voted for a union. So she done numerous things about that vote, including going to the head boss called 'chunkey' by the workers and told him they needed a union and voted amongst themselves for such. She appealed to the third generation owner and said that it was the workers opinion that the first Woodward was a friend to the workers and gave sharing arrangements to keep a happy medium going. She said that chunkey , you don't care for the workers anymore.(Thousands of workers) You are against giving a living wage that would make us proud to live and work here. Chunkey responded by initiating the first 'part-time' schedule to ward off the full-time workers, hoping that way to break their union spirit. Mother then went to the Canadian communist party and asked for assistence in leafleting the huge downtown department store in a working class area called woodwards about the conditions, after the founder of the store Ernie Woodward. However, because of the anti-communist scare of the time the party had fewer and fewer militants that could be spared to do the job. To make a long story short Mary was defeated, and her work undone in such a way that the workers hated their bosses with a vengence and sought other ways to work, and mother East left the area to work in other areas. The workers never forgot the way they were treated with disrespect and went away. The store itself was next to the Chinese community and was filled with Chinese people who used to shop there. Within a decade the store went bankrupt and I know that it was because the chunkey spoiled brat who fought to gentrify the area with bourgeois clothes and values rather than side with the working class clothes, styles and peoples. He lost the whole chain which by then had expanded to two provinces and had he signed with the union which mother East headed, that store would have been thriving to this very day and expanded to further provinces. That was forty years ago and the city was Vancouver, BC, Canada. My mother recently passed away and forty days before she died in Dec. 2004 she sung to me her death song. She sung to me a second world war song son, "I am a Red Cross Nurse in No mans land." I am sure she referred to the times when during the anti-fascist war she worked as Rosy-Riveter in vancouver building B.29 fusilages, jobbed out from Boeing in Seatle. She believed as Mother Jones that the only full way of redressing the grievence of workers was to unite in the worker controlled union and change the living and working conditions to the favour of the living world. And also as Marx and Engles believed that the class struggle should end with a workers' state that would end all exploitation of the labouring classes. Mother Jones and Mary East, Presente'.
