Meeting the Press
MEETING THE PRESS....Yesterday I wondered how long it would be until the McCain campaign was willing to let Sarah Palin out in public to meet with the national press. David Corn doesn't have an answer for us yet on this vital question, but today he moves the ball a few yards down the field:
On Monday night, I encountered Mark Salter, a top McCain adviser, outside the St. Paul Hotel, and I asked him when Palin's first press conference would be. Her did not seem eager to talk about it. "After the convention," he said. Soon after the convention? "After," he repeated. Whenever it occurs, it will be some session.
They definitely don't seem eager to find out what will happen when she sits down with reporters without a briefer present. No surprise there, especially since even McCain himself is none too eager to sit down with the press these days either. Considering the bloodbath that's just waiting to happen when they do, I guess I can't blame him.

They'll script a sit with Hannity or some other Fox troll and claim she's faced the press and sufficient scrutiny for now. These are some goalposts that will get moved a few dozen times before they relent to an actual presser.

If the brand-new, gaping orifice Campbell Brown tore open for Tucker Bounds last night is any indication, then it's tough to imagine that the four corner stall is gonna serve McCain very well, either.
Sure she'll be available for press but those reporters are going to have to yell really loud at that iceflow that's drifting out to sea and Palin probably won't hear most of the questions.
Her press conference will begin, and end, with: "Due to consuming family obligations that have proved to be a distraction in this campaign, I will be unable to fulfill my role as a vice presidential running mate for our next president, John McCain. For the good of the party and the good of the country, I step down ..."
Mr./Ms. Mod --
Are all comments with links subject to delay now, or is it just comments with links to video? Or is it something else entirely which prompts the approval process?
Just wonderin'.
[It appears that all comments with links are held up over here. I'm not sure if I can do anything about it or not before we get a new layout in a couple of months. -Mod]
Here's the answer to the question: After the convention means after the election. They simply won't do it. The only event that will be unscripted with her is the debate with Biden, and all she has to do is not do a complete face plant to have the press oohing and ahhing about how she stood up to Biden (who will either be a brute or so passive he'll be a non-entity. Look what is unfolding with Troopergate: she's challenging the investigation and avoiding a deposition. And I can assure you, the MSM will let the Republicans get away with it. Book it.
Should be fun to watch.
If it's like a McCheney interview, Ms. Palin will answer questions that have not yet been asked, tipping everyone off that the questions were arranged in advance.
If only I were able to ask one question of the VP nominee.
"What makes you think that governing a state with the population of Baltimore gives you the executive experience to be a (feeble 73 year old) heartbeat away from Commander in Chief?"
hmmmmm?
It's like watching people begging to be whipped.
It's all good wanting to watch a bloodbath, but just remember, there is always the chance that she will knock the interviews/press conference out of the park.
Us Sarah Palin supporters in Alaska, aren't afraid at all. We have seen her handle the media plenty of times.
Those fawning, obsequious courtiers to right-wing corporate power, the highly paid "on-air personalities" of the corporate-owned mass media, will grill Sarah Palin with hard-hitting questions like "How does your faith guide you during times like this?"

We.
Geeze Rory, isn't it bad enough having a girl's name and being from a state full of weirdos? Why do you have to draw attention to yourself with bad grammer?
Hey Rory, what do Alaskans call living near Canada and Russia? Foreign policy experience.
Bwaahahahahahahahahaha.
... Rory, isn't it bad enough having a girl's name...
Um, despite whatever trends are going around in your neck of the woods, Rory is hardly a girl's name.
(Not sure why I'm bothering to post this, as links seem to suck comments into a black hole, but I can't let my Celtic heritage get butchered by ignorance.)

Oooh yeah, that fearsome Wasilla and Anchorage media. Facing a national media feeding frenzy is just a bit different, don't you know, than dealing with local press.
