Chart of the Day - 3.11.2009

| Wed Mar. 11, 2009 10:20 AM PDT
According to Gallup, Congress's approval rating went up 12 points last month and another 8 points this month.  At this rate, they might even hit 50% sometime this spring!  Apparently the American public likes the idea of better healthcare for kids, fighting discrimination against women, and stimulus spending to slow the course of the financial meltdown.

It's also worth noting that although most of the increase is due to Democrats being happier with Congress than in the past (no surprise), approval among independents has doubled.  Republicans are still unhappy, of course, but no more so than in the past.  Apparently all that talk radio bloviating about incipient socialism hasn't had much effect even on conservatives.

Boehner and Cantor

John Boehner and David Cantor have been a disaster for the GOP. Put aside their ridiculous policy proposals, those guys come across as just plain creepy. Boehner has his tan and Cantor has that forced smile. Mike Pence -- the neckless, crew-cut wonder -- is suppose to be another GOP golden boy, but he looks pretty bizarre to me. The GOP is coming across as the weirdo party right now. Making Dem pols appear relatively normal is quite an accomplishment.

Also, Boehner reminds me of

Also, Boehner reminds me of Robert Mitchum, who's one of my all-time favorite actors. But Mitchum played the creepiest roles, so I don't think that's a compliment for a politician.

I like MItchum too

And whimpering Boehner reminds me nothing of him. I suspect Boehner wears panties to go with his bizarre yearlong tan.

incipient socialism

Clearly, Rush and Dr. Weiner are not yelling loudly enough.

Stuns me how fickle people

Stuns me how fickle people are. These are the same Dems congress people that facilitated every evil move by the previous administration - but Obama gets in power and everything is forgiven.

Fickle or stupid?

I don't know, maybe it's just because I live in Florida, one of the least educated states in the union... but I hear something like this and I don't think "Man, people are so apt to change their minds." Instead, I think "It's a good thing for politicians that more than half the people in the country don't have a clue how a country gets run."
