The Latest on Sarah P.
Just the other day I was thinking, "I wonder what's up with Sarah Palin? I haven't heard any good Palin gossip lately."
Well, Vanity Fair to the rescue. In "Me and Mrs. Palin," Levi Johnston unburdens himself and tells his version of what life was like in the Palin household after the election:
Sarah was sad for a while. She walked around the house pouting. I had assumed she was going to go back to her job as governor, but a week or two after she got back she started talking about how nice it would be to quit and write a book or do a show and make “triple the money.” It was, to her, “not as hard.” She would blatantly say, “I want to just take this money and quit being governor.” She started to say it frequently, but she didn’t know how to do it. When she came home from work, it seemed like she was more and more stressed out.
Does this sound believable? I'm not sure. But it does sort of sync up with this report from Politico a couple of days ago:
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin this week will begin accepting and rejecting the more than 1,070 invitations she has received for paid speeches and political appearances since she resigned from office, aides said.
....She’s about 85 percent finished with her book, due out this spring from HarperCollins. Then she’ll begin looking through the inch-and-a-half thick file her lawyer, Robert Barnett, has built of offers for network and cable pundit gigs, documentaries and business opportunities.
Levi also says that when Palin first heard Bristol was pregnant, she insisted over and over that they keep it a secret and then allow her and Todd to adopt the baby when it was born. I confess that I'm not sure this passes the credibility test either. But he's pretty clear about it.

A consummation devoutly to be wish't
Maybe if everyone just stopped talking about this woman, she would go away.
credible?
Kevin, you are sadly dated in your ideas of what is and is not credible. Where have you been the last 20 years? Which of the major actions or pronouncements of major right-wing figures would have seemed credible to you, if someone predicted them a week before they actually happened? One of the major accomplishments of the modern right is precisely the eclipsing of the distinction between what is believable and what is not.
You're getting old, Kev.
Iran Contra
More than 20 years.
Who would have guess in 1980 that the next president would sell arms to IRAN to secure the release of hostages and and pay for a folks fighting a civil war in Central America?
And that nobody would go to jail for it.
Nixon blazed that trail almost 40 years ago.
Which would find more
Which would find more credible, that Palin was reading Moby Dick or that she was actiing like a whacko?
but g. powell!
They already have whales in Alaska, so there is no need for Sarah to read Moby Dick. And she's not "acting" like a whacko, she is one.
More Palin gossip (that
More Palin gossip (that y'all may like).
(h/t to Balloon Juice)
I like it! Let's call her
I like it! Let's call her Sarah P from now on.
Or maybe "spalin"
Or we could call her "Spalin," from "to spale," which means "to talk but make no sense," as in "Wow, that druggie chick is really Spalin'."
Palin Punked (Again)
grape_crush, I think you mean via the Balloon Juice comments... JC et al haven't mentioned it on the front page yet.
To flesh out the story, Sarah was offered a keynote speaker gig for a CLSA (a powerful asian invesment firm, managing more the $10 trillion(!) of funds) conference. Why, you might ask, was Palin, with no proven foreign policy or economic experience to speak of be asked to speak of these things in front of an audience? As it turns out, Sarah may have been punk'd (again). From grape_crush's link:
Hopefully Sarah Palin realizes she's been invited to Hong Kong almost certainly as a practical joke.
CLSA, the Asia-focused broker who invited Mrs. Palin as keynote speaker for an Asian investment conference, is well known for their cheeky takes on investment research.
...
Sarah Palin is this year's big laugh for them."
Sarah Palin: global laughingstock.
What is the credibility test?
KD,
You say that Levi Johnston's claims don't pass the credibility test. What is the test?
This is all gossip. People who read or hear it will believe what conforms to their existing beliefs about these people and disbelief that which does not. They will all be entertained by it.
Adoption or birth?
Okay, I’m a good Democrat and a Sarah Palin-hater – but I STILL don’t buy the idea that Trig was born to Bristol and Levi. Notice what Levi says in this excerpt – that Sarah and her husband would ADOPT the baby, not that she would claim to give birth to it. That’s an important difference there.
Also, okay, I’m probably the only sane person in America who believes Lee Harvey Oswald got off three lucky shots with his old rifle. I just do not believe in most conspiracy theories. There would be way too many people involved in covering up a Bristol Palin-birth-of-Trig. Someone in Alaska would talk, particularly if there was money involved – as there usually is these days.
But then, that’s just me…
Spare us
Just the other day I was thinking, "I wonder what's up with Sarah Palin? I haven't heard any good Palin gossip lately."
Got to agree with the very first comment on this thread. Obsessing about that Sarah P lady is unhealthy for anybodies mind, independent of personal ideological affiliation.
Any second she's not in the public eye should be savored. You did the world a disservice with this post, Kevin.
Umm phoebes, I think Levi
Umm phoebes, I think Levi was talking about my namesake Tripp, not Trig. Tripp is the darling lovechild of Levi and Bristol and Levi is now claiming that Sarah P once was hoping to keep Bristol's pregnancy secret and then Sarah P and the first dude would adopt little Tripp, although I suppose in that case Tripp's name would be Algy if a boy or Polisci if a girl.
Anywho, anyone who thinks Kevin is keeping the Sarah P story alive is ignoring the tabloids. Why I read in the Star that the first dude is ready to divorce Sarah P, but I'm not sure that holds water. I mean he probably does have at least a little self-respect but I doubt he will do anything rash until the book money comes in. Sef-respect don't buy you a hot tub or widescreen TV.
Tripp
Oh, and SRW1, I ain't
Oh, and SRW1, I ain't obsessing, I'm enjoying. Are you sure it is not you obsessing about everybodies mental health?
Tripp
Health benefits of pleasure
Well Trippp, if it gives you pleasure, have at it.
I don't quite think that my 'concern' with 'anybodies mental health' amounts to an 'obsession' (though I will plead guilty to having used that term first).
I am maintaining my opinion that Sarah P is a person and a topic unbecoming to public health in general and therefore best avoided where possible.
Good for you if you're one of the exceptions who can derive a pleasurable experience out of that ladies saga. Given the piece of info that she's 85% done with her book project, I suspect you may have ample opportunity to enjoy lots more stuff about Sarah P in the near future.
The only person
more unbelievable and more revolting than Sarh Palin is Levi Johnston.
I wouldn't believe a word he said, and giving him any credibility for his "insights" into the Palin family dynamics at all strikes me as idiocy.
You want to believe him because it confirms your prejudices.
A pox on all of them.
