Quote of the Day #3 and #4
From Sarah Palin, talking to Oprah about Levi Johnston:
By the way, I don't know if we call him Levi — I hear he goes
by the name Ricky Hollywood now, so, if that's the case, we don't want to mess up this gig he's got going.
Ricky Hollywood? And this from a "former McCain campaign aide," on Palin's book:
It is unrecognizable at every instance. There is not one truthful account as it relates to any conversation I ever had with her.
So why is Sarah Palin so endlessly fascinating? The sex appeal that practically oozes out of every pore? Her perpetual family soap opera? A sense of besiegement and resentment so powerful it practically knocks you over every time she speaks? The fact that she actually seems to take pride in her complete lack of policy expertise? Her seemingly total lack of real self-awareness? The fact that she lies so casually it seems like she actually believes everything she makes up?
Yeah, I guess that's it. By the way, Sullivan has been watching her Oprah interview and says "She's clearly hoping to run for president in 2012." Wouldn't that be great? And not just for the entertainment value, but to answer some truly nagging questions. Is it possible to win the Republican nomination while giving interviews to no one except Fox News personalities? Her fellow Republicans mostly treat her with cautious respect right now, but what will they say about her once they're all on stage together during the primary debates? Will she develop any actual policy positions? And who would she choose to be her running mate? Inquiring minds want to know.

Truth in advertisiing
Along Palin's book tour... Has any interviewer asked her about the Hollywood ghost writer that wrote it for her? Is this question "Did you write this book yourself?" allowed?
Yes, it is allowed.
I heard Brian Lamb on C-span ask Michael Moore whether he'd written his book or if someone else wrote it. It was especially insulting because the tone of Lamb's voice made it sound like he couldn't believe Moore could have written it himself. And yes, Moore did write it himself, which he made perfectly and humorously clear to Mr. Lamb.
It's the same fascination as
It's the same fascination as watching a train wreck. She is beyond belief, the ultimate narcissist.
Sex appeal oozing from every pore?
I just don't see it. Sure some appeal, but oozing from every pore? I'm a straight female but I recognize and appreciate sex appeal in women (Eve Mendes comes to mind). Don't men get turned off even a little bit when Palin opens her mouth? Or am I being naive here?
An awkward question that
An awkward question that deserves a response.
Yes, a lot of men find Palin to be sexy. Don't ask me why, but she's got it. Doesn't mean you agree with a word that she says, in fact, she's both repulsive and attractive, and that probably makes it even better. It isn't pretty, but it's true. But most of us who find her attractive would never vote for her.
I think (hope) Kevin is
I think (hope) Kevin is being sarcastic. In any case, I am a healthy red-blooded male, and I have never found Palin to be the least bit sexually attractive. Maybe if you go for the dominatrix type... , but I don't.
You are being naive here.
You are being naive here. I'm a straight female, too, which means that I know lots of straight males. The Repubs among them just love the tap tap tap of high heels topped by pencil skirts sooooo much that the thought of a MILF in charge of the Army and the National Highway Safety Administration and all that is, like, oh, man, get me an ice pack. You haven't noticed that these people have no judgment whatsoever?
Don't get it myself. But I
Don't get it myself. But I wouldn't understand Clinton or Bush or Quayle or Edwards either. I think you have to be 50 to 60 to see it :)
Sarah Palin only has sex
Sarah Palin only has sex appeal if you're into shrewish, leather-faced scolds. I look forward to the Rich Lowrys of the world dealing with time's inevitable toll on her appearance.
Palin and Edwards represent telegenic talent
The men, liberal or conservative, who find Palin attractive, and worse, who would consider voting for her based on her sex appeal, are exactly like the women, liberal or conservative, who found Edwards attractive and willing to support him because of his sex appeal. Palin and Edwards represent telegenic talent, which many voters consider the most important value in a candidate.
Telegenic
What is this nation turning into? A bunch of non-critical thinking morons? I sure hope there are more intelligent people than there are Palin followers, or we are in big trouble! It is a dangerous thing to judge a book by its cover, because there's not much more there... I died laughing when she told Oprah that she and her family weren't into drama! She oozes drama with every word she says and writes! Calling her grandson's father names on world TV is nothing but drama! My faith is riding on the younger generation who can see through all this!
Nope
She ain't runnin'. I guarantee it. She isn't interested in power, and she is even less interested in responsibility. Otherwise, she would never have resigned as governor.
What she wants is attention, and she's found the best way to get it.
Who Needs Policy Positions?
"Will she develop any actual policy positions?"
If she's running for the Republican nomination, will she even have to?
Mitt Romney did pretty well with a platform based on wanting to "double Guantanamo." Giuliani had "noun, verb, 9/11."
I think Palin would do just fine without them.
Kevin, I like you and I've
Kevin, I like you and I've been reading since Calpundit. But the only people interested in Sarah Palin are old as fuck. I'm a white male in the South and I hang out with all kinds of people. I have yet to find anyone under 50 who refers to Palin at all. No one is fascinated with her, and no one wants to have sex with her. I'm sorry but this is not a real thing, it's just TV.
Those old as fuck people are
Those old as fuck people are the ones that vote. And they are the core of the GOP.
But I do hope she runs. Obama will probably be in trouble in 2012, but a candidate Palin, or even a failed nomination run, would be such a huge gift to the Dems.
"Those old as fuck people
"Those old as fuck people are the ones that vote."
Yeah, they are the ones who die too.
That's where the 60% of under-30 voters who went for Obama come in.
No, Missy Sarah is just right for the geriatric set at Hooters, but that's about it.
Old
I think you may be underestimating the gullibility and the sheer inertia of the American voters. My guess is if she ran, about 40 to 50% would vote for her. If Obama were in trouble at the time of the next election, it would be very very close.
Wait, is Levi actually going
Wait, is Levi actually going by "Riki Hollywood"? Cause if Palin just made that up to make fun of him, that's actually pretty funny.
Ah, Wonkette says she stole
Ah, Wonkette says she stole it from a Daily Beast writer. Ah well
Funny?
Yea, sadly funny that a VP candidate can be so petty about her grandson's father in front of millions of viewers! What does she call herself? One who puts herself in front of the limelight for the attention every chance she gets? I think I believe Levi when he stated she is only interested in the limelight. Have you see that montronsity of a bus she is touring around the country in, with her picture two stories high? Give me a break! Narcissitic is an appropriate analogy!
Sex Appeal?
I'm old as fuck, and even I don't see the sex appeal oozing from every pore.
Straight female anonymous above got it right...
And she is different from Ronald Reagan, how?
Just asking....
Seriously?
> And she is different from Ronald Reagan, how?
I am no Reagan fan (just the opposite in fact) but he served a reasonably successful term as president of the University of California system, 2 terms as Governor of California, and I think also one or more terms as president of the Screen Actors Guild. Please link to Palin's equivalent experience - especially re-election to a significant office?
Cranky
UC President? You sure about
UC President? You sure about that one? I can't find any evidence of that being true.
Reagan
Are you a California resident, or were you one at the time he was governor ? When Reagan decided to run for the presidency, many in California were overjoyed to be losing a governor.
Dunno, we seem to have a
Dunno, we seem to have a know nothing pretty boy AS president.
Ghost Writer
Truth in Advertising, the Times review on Monday did indeed identify the ghost writer, as a radical winger in fact. I suppose we can give her credit for something the review complained vehemently about, references to literature like Melville that Palin could not have read.
The Republican Party would like her to go away
Brooks doesn't like her. Personally, I hope she's on the ticket in 2012.
Palin/Perry in 2012
..or is it Perry/Palin?
So why is Sarah Palin so endlessly fascinating?
She's not.
If you get past the media and the teabaggers, who both fall under the spell of shiny objects, fascinating is hardly the word to describe how others feel about her... if they feel anything at all.
Thanks for saying this. I was beginning to despair that I might be the only one reading who is decidedly not fascinated. Even the prospect of a spectacularly disastrous and politically disruptive (for the GOP) 2012 campaign-o-rama isn't enough to make me wish she wouldn't just go away, and stay away.
I'm holding out for
I'm holding out for Palin/Wurzelbacher in 2012. Gives me the vapors just thinking about it.
I also don't get the OCD here...
Honestly, hasn't the fifteen minutes ticked away already? So she's mildly hot, there are plenty of hotter forty year old women out there. I just don't see the legitimacy of her anymore, she's someone who made a run at power in the boondocks on her good looks, got there, abused it, got nominated for VP on her looks, was exposed as a fraud, unintelligent, belligerent and vindictive person, screwed the people of Alaska over, left her public service job to pursue the big payout and for some reason she still gets ink.
I get what Sully over at The Atlantic is doing, well, actually he's doing what the rest of the MSM should be doing, digging into her every statement since she's turning out to be a habitual liar and posting a warning lest we ever let the political elites do something as stupid as nominating someone of her character again.
The rest of you are just writing with the small pencil between your legs. Please, your not going to get laid when Todd is out fishing so drop the coverage and move on to more important issues.
Oh yeah, she's not running for President, she's going to continue to bilk her followers and whoever else can pony up cash on the speaking circuit and what not.
Democrats should be careful
Democrats should be careful what they wish for, if it's Palin atop the GOP ticket in 2012. First, the country needs Republicans to grow up and start contributing constructively if a progressive agenda is going to get anywhere. Second, Palin-as-nominee puts her one good Democratic campaign screw-up or gaffe away from the Oval Office. Third, it just adds another four years to the life span of the American Wingnut Association. This is no time to sit back and watch Caribou Barbie win friends and influence people while we snicker on the sidelines.
Yeah, Kevin, Sarah Palin
Yeah, Kevin, Sarah Palin really isn't "fascinating" at all. The emotions she conjures up in me are "despair" and "melancholy."
Also, did you just seriously say that she hasn't granted an interview to anyone but Fox News personalities in an article about her appearance on Oprah? That's either a massive fail at paying attention, unbelievable dishonesty, or both.
If she does decide to run, as Sullivan postulates, I'll be more interested in how Republicans view her and the like. But until then, just about nobody cares.
Now that I reread your
Now that I reread your article, trying to figure out what you were talking about, the question about Fox News interviews makes a modicum of sense. But c'mon, there's no reason for her to only appear on Fox News; it'd be a sign of weakness that Palin's advisors, if not Palin herself, would be sure to avoid. I hope it was an idle joke on your part.
And she is different from
And she is different from Ronald Reagan, how?
Did Ronald Reagan fake a pregnancy?
Ronald Reagan had a pregnant idea:
tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. Worked for him, didn't it? That little bastard grew into a real monster for the rest of us.
Ricky Hollywood
Um, Kevin... I hate to break this to you... but Levi really is calling himself Ricky Hollywood while he's staying in LA. That's a "what, really?" for Levi, not Sarah.
(Not that Sarah doesn't scare the living crap outta me, mind you.)
Sarah & Hollywood
Sarah Palin could go to Hollywood tomorrow and be cast in a comedy with her as President. She'd make millions and there would be a sequel.
Haven't y'all figured out the Republican strategy yet?
They don't want to elect a President, they want a figure head. They want a smiling, idiot, marketer in chief. Someone who can sell their load of crap to all the smiling idiots in the electorate, while diverting attention from what is really being done to screw them.
Reagan was the ultimate, Bush2, just a shadow, but effective.
It's really been diabolically effective. "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain!"
Jesus is coming, look busy.
