Quote of the Day
From RNC chairman Michael Steele, talking to Roland Martin on a new Sunday talk show aimed at black audiences:
MARTIN: One of the criticisms I've always had is Republicans — white Republicans — have been scared of black folks.
STEELE: You're absolutely right. I mean I've been in the room and they've been scared of me.

I'd be scared to be in a room with Steele...
scared I'd laugh so hard that I'd pee myself.
Steele needs his own
Steele needs his own political comedy show - he should start by doing segments for Colbert/Stewart.
He is unstable enough that I
He is unstable enough that I would be concerned about being in the same room as him.
That's pretty funny, but of
That's pretty funny, but of course, Democrats are pretty scared of black Republicans as well, so much so, we constantly seek ways to dismiss them and declare their lack of authenticity.
Horseshit
I'm a lifelong Democrat, a liberal from Berkeley and the Upper West Side, and there is no sense in which I am afraid of Black Republicans. Certainly, being a black Republican is a non-standard choice, to ally oneself to a party that has followed Nixon's Southern Strategy so assiduously over the last few decades, but I would assume that a conservatively-minded African-American has consciously chosen to overlook the mostly implicit racism in the GOP in favor of the other values that they do represent. There are other things beside race, obviously.
In truth, I would prefer if the GOP could become more attractive to blacks and latinos in general. The current situation, where the GOP is a rump party that represents mostly Southern white males, is not a healthy one for America. I want an opposition party that stands for something, and has ideas, not a party that equates health care reform with Dachau, not a party that labels our manifestly center-of-the-road president an illegitimate Marxist intent on destroying us all. Incoherent, hate-filled xenophobia is not the way to maintain a great country.
And I am certainly not afraid of Michael Steele. As a lifelong Democrat, I would give him a warm hug and tell him to do exactly what he has been doing. I haven't seen a more incompetent GOP party head in my entire life, and I'm grateful for it.
Good for you Ratty. Check
Good for you Ratty. Check out the good liberal Uncle Tomming Steele just a few comments down.
And how do *you* feel about Ward Connerly? Clarence Thomas? Thomas Sowell? John McWhorter, Shelby Steele?
Do you agree that we often dismiss these guys? Oreo them? Uncle Tom them?
Lawyers Guns and Money even Uncle Tommed Juan Williams and declared that their group of young white academics were more authentically black and well versed in the civil rights movement than Juan Williams who they declared shuffled and nodded to his master. Pretty amazing performance actually.
Is there anything that he
Is there anything that he says that doesn't merit the respons of "WTF?"
It's his suits. His
It's his suits. His sartorial sense is deeply disturbing.
Michael Steele is stupid and
Michael Steele is stupid and to answer the question the way he did leaves me to suspect that Uncle Tom taught him well.
