Today’s war news:
- Afghan president Hamid Karzai is apparently trying to run the entire country with members of his extended family.
- Obama is finally getting serious about dealing with the Taliban, but Pakistan continues to undermine talks.
- A new administration report says bluntly that the Pakistanis don’t really want to fight either al-Qaeda or the Taliban.
- But Pakistan, still upset at our recent cross-border helicopter attack, says there is “no timetable for reopening the border at Torkham.”
If you believe all these things simultaneously, Pakistan doesn’t really want us talking to the Taliban, they don’t especially want us to fight the Taliban either, and they don’t want to fight the Taliban themselves. Or something. Plus, Hamid Karzai is corrupt. Onward!
