Marcio Local's Adventures in Samba Soul
It's not cerebral music, but these Brazilian love songs soothe the soul.
Not all great Brazilian musicians are as brainy as the old masters Caetano Veloso and João Gilberto. Local takes a less cerebral approach with his mellow baritone and sultry party grooves. Addictive tunes like "Sentimento Rei" ("King Feeling") and "Suingue Dominou" ("Swing Took Over") blend samba, upbeat soul, sleazy lounge pop, and even a dash of hip-hop urgency. The result is a soothing bath of sound. The sensuality of "Minha Rosa" ("My Rose") won't cure the world's ills, but it will delight those who can't get enough of silly love songs.
