Obama Ranks at Head of Dem Field for First Time: Poll
A poll showing Barack Obama ahead of Hillary Clinton was released yesterday by Rasmussen. I believe it's the first of its kind. The field is Obama with 32% support, Clinton at 30%, and Edwards at 17%. No other candidate tops 3%.
Rasmussen cautions that the 2% difference between Obama and Clinton is not statistically significant. I suppose it would be bigger news if Obama created a statistically significant lead over Clinton. We'll blog again when that happens.
Other results of note:
Obama now leads among voters under 40. Clinton is strongest among those 65 and older. Clinton has a two-point edge among Democrats. Obama has a nineteen-point lead among independents likely to vote in a Democratic primary.
Also a little bizarre -- Edwards does best against Republicans.
Obama and Clinton are the frontrunners, but Edwards does best in general election match-ups. He leads all GOP hopefuls and is the only Democrat to lead the Republican frontrunner, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.
And just a final note: 52% of Americans oppose the impending veto George W. Bush will stamp on the Dems' war spending bill that sets a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq.

Psh. Don't listen to that hodgepodge of Rasmussen Reports. Remember all their mistakes? Remember they said the senate was going to go REPUBLICAN, one of the few polls that did say that? Next question. Why are Bush's approval ratings so high in Rasmussen Polls? His current approval is 41%! It proves they've gone psycho, not the poll group they used to be.
Hey Pauline,
Please inform yourself before making ignorant statements next time.
Obama has made clear that he thinks it is the President's right to choose who he wants to work with him. As a result, he has generally voted to confirm almost all of Bush's Cabinet appointees. Russ Feingold, as a fellow consitutional scholar and anti-war Democrat, has the same position and also voted to confirm Condoleeza Rice.
Are you going to say that Feingold is not anti-war either? If so, you, Kucinich, and Gravel are all alone on that one.
You write that Obama has a statistically insignificant lead in the Rassmussen poll, and that you "suppose it would be bigger news if Obama created a statistically significant lead over Clinton." Well, yes. Let's consider what it means for him to have a statistically insignificant lead. Speaking statistically, this means that we have no logical right to infer that he has any lead at all. If he had a statistically significant lead, then we could infer that he has a lead. So the difference is between infering that he has a lead vs. being unable to infer that he has a lead. Quite different meanings. If there is any news in this poll, it's merely that he isn't behind. But we cannot say that he's in the lead. Try this analogy. I step on one scale and it says I weigh 150 ilbs. I step on a different scale and it says I weigh 151 ilbs. This is an insignificant difference because it can be attributed to measurement error, and not to a real difference in weights. It would be bigger news indeed, if I learned instead that I really had lost weight.
Obama and Clinton will destroy each other in the primary as things heat up and get close to the finish. It doesn't matter who wins, a significant sigment of the party will be alienated and will stay home or vote Green Party. Obama running is divisive for the party and will just hand the election over to the Republicans.

They called it for the Democrats in '06, perhaps you should look at their polls a little closer to the dates of the election--not 3 months prior. Their polls are only as accurate as the time they give them. Last polls within a week of the elections: spot on.
Mike Gravel is going to be the next Democratic President. He speaks the truth.

I just got this after making a donation to John Edwards.
Dear friend,
Thank you so much for your support. I never accept any money from lobbyists or PACs, so our victory depends on people like you pitching in. And that's the way it should be.
No Lobbyist money?!?! Thats all I need to hear.
Kucinich should be top Candidate, actually has plans all ready to go. If you think the call for Impeachment of Cheney was a ploy.... it wasn't, it had to be done and he is the only one who will stand up and do something. He is also not affiliated with AIPAC. Which is the main root to as why the muslim world hates the U.S. However Obama, Clinton, and Edwards are... and all 3 are beating war drums towards Iran. There's no threat, this can be diplomatically solved.
Obama is on a forward trend, as compared to Hillary and the Senate seat gifted to her. Hillary started high but is declining, while Obama is slowly rising up. I notice that the Clintons aren't campaigning with the "Vote or Die" slogans at this point. Presumably, they'd like certain people to stay away from the polls, at least until the Democratic nomination is won.
First of all, Obama comes accross as clear and focused with a no-nonsense approach to the political situation. But only Kucinich is tuned in with the "51%" of Americans who want to get Bush impeached. But he leaves it at Cheney's doorstep only.
I don't think a congress that 10 years ago was raking Clinton over the coals for fudging on the semantics of having sex with an aid, but who ignores now the proof of real crimes against humanity, and against our constitution, crimes committed by the president, such a political body is enept at getting the public's needs met.
The bottom line is that if we do not impeach Bush, the rest of the world will never respect US citizens again, they will blame us for allowing him to run amok unchecked. We NEED to impeach and stop this war immediately or America will not be able to stand the shame and judgments of the rest of the world.
We are no longer "the champions of Democracy"--in the eyes of the world we are supporting a dictator and criminal.
I support the canidate who supports the real democracy: the US CONSTITUTION. Protect my rights, stop warring, quit destroying the environment, feed the poor homeless Americans, educate our children and take good care of our seniors' health.
Oh, and--duh--develop alternative approriate energies IMMEDIATELY.
But which canidate is that? None of them yet gets it. Oh, the debate showed the emotional stuff--but really, who needs the emotional politics now? We need an impassioned but not overly-emotional leader, one who sees clearly the needs of democracy in the modern world. Hundreds of thousands dead and no end in site for the war. Violence, putting our boys in harm's way for his own political special interests.
yup. blood spilled--all over the president's hands, quite a bit different from Clinton's indiscresion--but where is the uproar in congress about it?
I hope you canidates are getting this--to not impeach Bush is to impeach yourselves and destroy our country as well as your political carreer.
It is not the small percentage leads of any canidates that is the issue here, it is the 51% of Americans wanting impeachment that you need to study. Are you going to wait for 60%. 75%, 90%? By then the people will be knocking on your D.C. doors and camping on the Whitehouse lawn. Or maybe that is Bush's plan, then he could invoke his emergency powers act and suspend the election and keep being dictator forever!
May the Spirit of Truth overcome all your fears and doubts--PLEASE help our country get out of the bully's grip!
...but Edwards "does best against Republicans," including front runner Giuliani ... so let's put our heads together now ... the nominee should be ... WHO??? Maybe I'm wrong, but I think this time it's REALLY IMPORTANT to select someone who can win...
Dennis Kucinich is the only one I see speaking the truth about the issues. I especially like his push to impeach Cheney. The unspoken issue is Aipac the Jewish lobby that so influences our Government policy. All the front runners get money from them and are not about to bit the hand that feeds them. It is all such a joke, such a con job. We will still be in Iraq 10 years from now. Look at all the large bases we are building there. Do you really think we are going to abandon them. What Politican speaks to this? Exactly--none.
"In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show that Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability, and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort, and sanctuary to terrorists, including al Qaeda members ... It is clear, however, that if left unchecked, Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons."
- Sen. Hillary Clinton (D, NY), Oct 10, 2002
In "Dreams from My Father"(442 pages), Obama found solace in nursing a pervasive sense of grievance and animosity against his mother's race. The happy ending to "Dreams" is Obama's hard-drinking half-brother Roy, "Actually, now we call him Abongo, his Luo name, for two years ago he decided to reassert his African heritage"-converts to teetotaling Islam. Obama is really a Muslim at heart because it is keeping real African to be Muslim and not the white man's religion of Christianity. Obama is distressed at being half-white. I feel sorry that he is a victim of being biracial. May be in 200 years children of biracial couples will not have such mental problems. But we deal in the presence.
The real problem is the republican party. According to daddy and babs bush on the Larry King show Jeb will be coming along. He said so and I believe him, he knows how much power he and the rethugs have. So we better stick together and do everything we can to stop the repubs and those who support them.
Their supporters are: Big Religion both catholic republicans, my religion but not me, and evangelical fundamentalists. Also american neocons and finally the source of the money american corporations who place greed for money above all else. The rethugs and their supporters don't give a damn about america, they care only for their own private agendas of war-kill-death for money and world domination.
And they call themselves pro-life when all the while they are killing democracy, the constitution, our troops, and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and Afghanis.
The real problem is the domination of AIPAC and the money that they have to give to the politicians. 60% of the political parties money comes from people(Likud party) associated with AIPAC. Is it any wonder that we are in Iraq and Iran is next?
Republican, Democrat, Clinton, Obama, Bush, Cheney, Gore, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, Giulliani, etc...; it does not matter. They are all still a part of the same corrupt system. Wake up America. Take your country back!! By the people, for the people. As far as I'm concerned, it doesn't matter who you vote for, they're all just puppets for who really runs this country. You know who I'm talking about. And if YOU are reading this, I want YOU to know that I'm on to YOU and I fully intend on educating the world about YOU. Think you have the system too fixed? Guess again. People simply need to know whose to blame for their oppression, and trust me, they will know it is YOU.
LONG LIVE PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA!
