Lieberman Can't Find One Democratic Candidate To Endorse, Goes With McCain
What on earth is up with Joe Lieberman? Maybe it really ticked him off when so many members of the Democratic establishment endorsed his opponent in the last Connecticut senate race (even though that opponent was the Democrat). Maybe he really can't see beyond the war in Iraq. Maybe he's just a Democrat In Name Only (DINO) at this point. Maybe he's an egomaniac crazy for attention.
Whatever's going on, he's taken a pretty stunning step: He's endorsing John McCain for president.
John McCain is really cleaning up in the Very Serious Person electorate, what with his multiple newspaper endorsements yesterday and now this. It's just a matter of time until David Brooks and David Broder start writing slobbering editorials calling for a McCain-Lieberman centrist ticket.
Update: After the jump, video of Lieberman in a 2006 senate debate stating that he wants a Democratic majority in Congress and a Democrat in the White House.

"MAYBE he's a DINO"?
Yo, Jonathan, are you just discovering this NOW? How long have you been covering politics?! Lieberman's been a DINO forEVER.
(While we're at: I know "egomaniac" is convenient smear that pro-Dems like you and Corn like to use to dismiss people who don't toe the DLC party line, but it's pretty pathetic for an alleged journalist to resort to that as an explanation for why some people aren't as slavishly pro-Dem as yourselves.)
And here's a little tip for you to check out from your inside-the-Beltway office: There's another allegedly Democratic senator who talks and votes like a Republican, and her name rhymes with WiFi.
In the 2006 elections, the head of her campaign in California endorsed Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger over the Democrat running again him (Phil Angelides) ? and no one in either the mainstream or alternative press batted an eye.
You can be the first, Jonathan! Why not jumpstart the "Dump Dianne" campaign with a little bit of incisive reporting, instead of closing the journalistic door after Sen. LieberHorse has left the barn. Or are your pro-Dem credentials too important to you?

I think I'd go with egomaniac. For awhile now, Lieberman's been exhibiting a virulent strain of boomeritis, exhibited by a need to make it "all about me, all the time". He and McCain share positions on Iraq, campaign finance reform, and... that's about it. But if it'll soothe Joe's ego, then that's his guy.

LEIBERMANN get's his marching orders from Tel Aviv.He is a wack pac from way back. I'm from Connecticut, and what I can't see is how they "forgot" to modify the election laws so that you could'nt loose your Party's nomination and then register as a Independent the next day and compete in the General election. Is'nt that double dipping or something? I smell something rotten in High Places. Still, we did manage to get him booted out of the Democratic Party. It will be interesting to see who want's him onboard when-ever his next turn at bat comes around.
We can only hope that this passes on to McCain the kind of Joe-mentum that caused Lieberman to finish 5th in New Hampshire four years ago.
The lone silver lining to having the 2000 election stolen from Gore is that this guy is not now having the 2008 nomination handed to him.
I wish I could fast forward the rest of his term so that he can become a Fox News commentator and I never have to hear or see him again.
Does anyone care what this pathological liar has to say about anything anymore?
AN OPEN LETTER TO JOSEPH LIEBERMAN: (SENT TO HIM VIA HIS EMAIL, TODAY, BY ME, MADRNHELL):
"When Al Gore picked you as a running mate, I was disappointed. I feel that I know a sniveling crawling back-stabbing craven piece of crap when I see one, and when I saw you, I saw one.
I voted for Al, anyway, but with you present, I had to hold one nosril shut.
I still know that you are a sniveling crawling back-stabbing craven piece of crap, of course, but now you've done villainy one better.
F**k you, Liberbman. I don't think you are going to have the Senate by the balls after the next election. When that time arrives, I am going to urge my rather powerful Senators to stick it to you at every opportunity.
You bastard! I mean, that's all I can add to my comments: YOU BASTARD!!!"
