We've covered this pretty extensively, so we might as well give you denouement. Geraldine Ferraro just wrote a letter to Hillary Clinton resigning from her campaign. "I am stepping down from your finance committee so I can speak for myself and you can continue to speak for yourself about what is at stake in this campaign," Ferraro says to Clinton. "The Obama campaign is attacking me to hurt you. I won't let that happen."

Who knew there was so much blatant racism still on public display in America ... in the Democratic party ... IN HILLARY CLINTON'S CAMPAIGN to be the democratic nominee.
It boggles the mind, but reminds us all of the great amount of work yet to be done.
There are women who need our compassion to try to help them get over the bitterness they have suffered simply because of their gender. We cannot allow their negativity to make us strike back at them for stating their belief that someone gets a break because of something having nothing to do with ability. Victimhood cannot be encouraged and attacking people this bitter only makes them more calcified in their attitudes.

Ferraro was out-o-line-o.
She did well to resign-o.
The core of her statement was terribly wrong and backwards. But it represented what was being wispered (in private) among the well-connected long-stroke illuminati.
More people voted against Obama because of racial/ethnic reasoning then voted for him. Some people had to lie to their friends, family and spouses to pull that lever.
He is a righteous dude . . (like Ferris Buhler)
That's why he's where he is.
(Or, at least most "D"s give him credit for being both smarter and more honest then Billary (& crew).
I think Ms. Farraro is right. In my opinion the Media has panned Clinton and idolized Obama. I don't care which of them wins the nomination. I was especially upset at Keith Olbermann's rant about Clinton/Farraro this evening. Women of the US officially got the vote after blacks. We still earn less money than men many times with more education, experience and time on the job. I don't think Ferraro was being racist - she was truly stating how she felt.

Gerry, when you made your black comment, I realized that I hardly knew ye, the woman I served with on Capitol Hill for so many years and befriended.
Having taken part in discussions with some of the Mondale campaign's upper echelon, I know what you know--you would not have been his running mate where you not a woman.
Not that that's all you had to offer, but it was--on top of everything else--the tipping point.
But you won't give similar credit to Obama. To you, he is where he is only he's black. Shame on you!
You know, or should know, that Obama has never made race an issue in this campaign. That dubious distinction fell first to Bill Clinton-- whom I also thought I knew--after Obama's South Carolina victory. Then you. Shame on you both!
(And shame on Gloria Steinem for making a naked gender case for Hillary.)

The whole thing has been pathetic, disgusting, and stupid, very very stupid. Obama came in to Iowa and won because he was black? He then won states like Washington, Minnesota, and Kansas, because he was black? Is there a whiter state than Maine? It's all about organization, smarts, charisma, and talent. People sat around and wondered why he couldn't get the black vote (in the polls) until after he started winning white votes. If affirmative action could have gotten us a black prez then why not Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, or Carol Mosby Braun? The media likes Obama for the same reason they liked Kennedy, charisma! Obama has done a superb job based on his wits and talent, and people like Ferraro and Tippy should be ashamed of themselves.

I was sent this link to read from a friend and was becoming very discouraged by the replies at the top of this string...I see the really GOOD stuff is, still, as Grandma used to say, "at the bottom"! Your comments were both encouraging and enlightening...indeed, how COULD an African American win states like those stated unless people saw/heard HOPE in what they were voting for. As an African American that is the ONLY reason I and I'm sure MANY other Americans are voting for him...because he is offering the most HOPE.
I was pleasantly surprised to come across your words on top of so many previous postings chanting lock-stepped agreement with this latest "kitchen sink" negative stunt.

BTW: did you catch MSNBC this evening? Keith O had an exquisite (in my opinion) and quite memorable (again, in my opinion) commentary stressing just how dirty and despicable Clinton and her hatchet men (and women) have become.
When Norman Mailer was asked if he would prefer to have Nixon back, compared to G.W. Bush, he answererd in the affirmative. He opined " Nixon's inner life may have smelled like stale urine, but at least he was goddamned smart". On the other hand, Ms. Ferraro's inner life smells like stale urine; however, she is goddamned stupid!!!!

clinton/ferraro are lucky obama must be such a nice guy. if this were the gop, his people would already be screaming about hillary's free ride from the media because of who her husband was. and how the media was treating her candidacy like a restoration, and not the ascension of another junior senator (with some baggage, and embellishments on her record).
just now the media is starting to look into her experience, and it's not finding what she's claiming. just wait 'til november, if she makes it that far.
Why is she acting like the victim here? Ferraro started this whole thing, and she makes it sound like she is the victim.
And its nice to know that Shania, Tippy and Eric P. are ignorant enough to think black people are so stupid we are going to vote for him because he's black. If that's the case, you can say the same for Hilary Clinton; women are only voting for her because she is a woman. Come on, folks, be reasonable: its not just African Americans voting for him. I agree with your post. There is no way 10% of the population could carry Obama's vote; as Obama's vote has been being carried by the whole of the Common Population, not the 10% blacks.

When Bill Clinton was President, Hillary Clinton was 1st Lady and her only responsibility was controlling her house, the WHITE HOUSE, and she failed miserably. Anyone who can't control their own house could not possibly control the United States as a nation. Hillary Clinton's inability to control the WHITE HOUSE wasted millions of dollars that could have been a benefit to our country; but NO, there had to be an impeachment of Bill Clinton, which would never have been if Hillary Clinton had been able to control her own house.
Now Hillary Clinton thinks she is able to control other people's houses, even though she was unable to control her own.
Hillary Clinton's husband was having affairs right and left under her nose, for certain in the WHITE HOUSE, as well as in the ARKANSAS Governor's mansion.
Hillary Clinton didn't mind that much that her husband was having affairs. Those affairs were not because Hillary Clinton is a woman, but because Hillary Clinton as a woman cared very little about what her husband did, other than politically. A real woman will watch out for her man, but Hillary Clinton was and still is more interested in POWER than in her husband, and vice versa for her husband. Hillary Clinton's husband is just a coat tail to hold on to in order to gain power for herself and the want of power holds them together.
Obama has his house controlled, Hillary only appears to have her house controlled.
Obama is WHITE, as much WHITE as he is BLACK. Obama is 1/2 WHITE, and was raised by a WHITE WOMAN. Playing the race card should only work for ignorant people.
Obama is actually more suitable for president of the United States than Hillary Clinton. It is best not to get back into the Billary boat.
Finally a Democrat who is not blinded by political correctness. She is absolutely correct, if white, Obama would have not made it past first base due to lack of a resume, just like John Edwards. She is also correct that she was only picked to be the VP candidate because she was a women and it was a "Hail Mary" pass in a game going down to almost certain defeat. Similarly if John McCain picks African American J. C. Watts or Michael Steele (or the the more commonly known Republican Blacks, Condi or the General, it will be for similar reasons. Nothing the least bit racist about it!
Ferraro may not be racist, but she should be forced to defend that ridiculous statement. As alluded to in previous (and better) posts than this one, how could he have taken so many states if people weren't following his message instead of his skin color? Bill Clinton didn't have much in the way of "experience" when he came to power. It's not another Clinton that's needed to clean up after a Bush; now, as then, what is needed is NEW BLOOD in the White House.

I know the country is full of women who whine "how can she run a country when she can't control her own husband" like Martha here just did. They are so hausfrau they can't believe a woman like Hillary, or any woman could be smart enough and rational enough to hold the position of President. They would rather vote for a black man, just because that's what he is. That way they prove they are not a racist.And they can wag the finger at any mention of the word "black". But may I point out that our prisons are not full of white women ?
The thing I find fascinating is this demographic of aging baby boomer women, who are for the most part wealthy and spoiled yet are still able to convince themselves (and occaisionally others) that they are somehow victims. These same women are also quite often horribly racist, homophobic, and hold other insidious views that don't square with their purported liberal or progressive agendas. They are Lieberman Democrats, which is to say Democrats in name only. Look at the way Clinton, Pelosi & Feinstein have enabled this war and all the foulness that goes with it, and try to imagine that they have any interest in representing our interests. They are rich old privileged [deleted], driving our future into the ground while trying to give the impression they are in any way genuine long enough to get re-elected to their stranglehold on the American Government. You discourage the fact that Obama would be a good president by saying "He's black, and that's why he's winning." Then you say that it's the women who wouldn't vote for Hilary because...get this...she's a woman. Now that's just silly, Joy. Be reasonable: People do, will, and are going to have justified reasons for not voting for Hilary or Obama. However, saying that he's only here because he is black is not a justified reason. No...he'd still be wrong. It has nothing to do with her gender; she's just bitter. Hell, Al Gore and John Kerry are bitter. But you don't see them saying ignorant things about Bush, do you? Mainly because speaks for himself, but its because they aren't so bitter to where they just lash out at their opponent incorrectly, and still not admit they were wrong. Ferraro isn't willing to see another woman fail; that's TOTALLY understandable, but dont try to smear Obama in the process.
The best thing all of you could do is to get out of the chat rooms/forums and read all you can find about your proposed candidate. Some of you are so thrilled with Obama that you are not looking at him objectively. Did you notice, for instance, that some of his recent written ads say that he wants to privatize social security and raise the retirement age ?
