Literally, Get Off of My Lawn
From the AP:
A teenager was wounded in the arm by a man who said he wanted to stop the boy and another from taking his John McCain yard sign.
Warren Township police Lt. Don Bishop said 50-year-old Kenneth Rowles told officers he got out a .22-caliber rifle Saturday afternoon to fire warning shots, not hurt anyone. The two shots hit the van the teens were in.
Rowles pleaded not guilty Monday to felonious assault. A preliminary hearing was set for Nov. 4, Election Day.
Kyree Flowers, the 17-year-old passenger in the van, was wounded in the arm and was treated at a hospital, Bishop said.
Is this a one-act play staged at an experimental theater? The old man with the gun is John McCain. Kyree Flowers is Barack Obama. The yard is America. The gun is accusations about Bill Ayers. Or maybe its Joe the Plumber. The cops who let the kid off without charges are American voters.
Or, you know, something like that. All I know for sure is that the inevitable Daily Show bit about this will be hilarious.

On the other hand, I get so sick of sign-stealing, which I admit both sides do, not just Republicans, that I hope this story gets around and deters somebody. Grow up people! We can get more signs, but we can't so easily get back the moral high ground.
I agree. I also was looking back at posts and comments during the primary and am still shocked at how readily Obama supporters personally attacked people who didn't follow the "Obama party line". The somewhat ingenuous Palin supporters who Corn interviewed seemed to have a different behavioral pattern.
Kathy, I'm not sure where you're coming for with the "primaries" reference. It's not Clinton supporters were terribly respectful of opposition all the time either. But I don't recall either side stealing or vandalizing signs, like has been happening during the general election. I'm not even referring to the presidential race necessarily. I heard of a Norm Coleman sign getting vandalized recently, but I won't hang my head since I know of a sign I put up for Al Franken which has gone bye-bye. It's just juvenile. I guess since the thief in this case was 17, literally juvenile.
