Cheering the Ouster of Democrats, Continued

| Sun Dec. 7, 2008 8:13 AM PST

I've called for Charlie Rangel's removal, despite the fact that he's great on the issues. It should be no surprise, then, that I'm cheering "Dollar Bill" Jefferson's defeat. Not a hard decision — anytime someone's been indicted on 16 charges of corruption by a federal grand jury and the FBI has found $90,000 in cash in his home freezer, it's time to go.

Jefferson leaves a very Democratic Louisiana district in the hands of a Republican. Should be a targeted pickup for the Dems in 2010.

You are all racists to call for the few Black representatives to step down. Shame on you Crackers.

I disagree. The worst Democratic felon is better than the best Republican saint. One only needs to have the right progressive spirit in one's heart, and one's actions are of no account, unless you are Republican. Charlie and Jeff are no worse than Bill C, and we stood behind him while he lied and decieved, because we just knew that he wanted to be good, if only those mean Rethugs would have let him implement his Socialist vision. Don't pick on our good hearted felons!

roberta, why don't you make a list of republicans involved in scandals the past ten years, and i'll make a list of democrats. i cut you a break by making it ten years, because god knows no conservative bitchfest is complete without blaming bill clinton for something or other.

The sentiments of the likes of Roberta are very disturbing. Partisanship at its worst. Scum are scum are scum. Rangel and Jefferson are without any doubt scum.

Just to keep things accurate, we should acknowledge that the Louisiana Democratic Party endorsed Jefferson's opponent in the 2006 runoff. I don't propose to explain why the voters let him stay in office or get to the runoff this time, but the party did try to dump the crook. The House Democratic caucus long ago stripped Jefferson of his committee assignments, yet he wouldn't go. That's more than the Republicans have done with any of their crooks. Maybe that's because their crooks are too numerous to deal with. Just a guess.
