Blackwell Acolyte Distraught at Steele Endorsement, Victory

| Fri Jan. 30, 2009 2:26 PM PST

At a critical juncture in the voting for the new RNC Chair, former Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell, one of the most conservative figures in the race, realized he was behind and endorsed eventual winner Michael Steele, who was the most moderate. The move left one Blackwell devotee, a conservative Ohio-based blogger named Matthew Naugle, stunned and angry. I have emailed with Naugle before about the GOP's push to modernize it's approach to technology. Here are his thoughts on Blackwell's endorsement and Steele's victory:

...all the technology in the world is meaningless without the right conservative message.
I run Ken Blackwell's Facebook page and Twitter page. I was also Ken Blackwell's campaign blogger and web guy in 2006. Ken Blackwell is my hero- my idol- my Goldwater...... but I couldn't be more disappointed in his endorsement today. No candidate was more un-Blackwell than Michael Steele.
Steele is new to the language of conservatism, and he was certainly the most liberal candidate running. He expressed his view that the Supreme Court should follow what stare decisis is on Roe V. Wade, has run GOPAC into the ground, and was actively involved with Christine Todd Whitman's Republican Leadership Council.
The Republican Party, with a John McCain candidacy, tried to win on a "big tent" platform and in the process lost its soul. Now, with the election of Steele, they have lost their mind.

Steele, unfortunately, does not represent the face of the party and does not understand what it is to grow up White male under institutionalized racism,e.g. affirmative action.

I think the Republican Party may have finally come to its senses and realized that the overwhelming influence of right-wing religious extremists was never a good idea and that a return to moderate conservative control will be necessary if the GOP hopes to actually survive. I hope the REAL Grand Old Republican party sends all the troglodytes back to their caves.

I am pro-life because abortion is not the only way out for a woman with an unwanted pregnancy. In fact, she can choose one of these three options: to raise the child, to abort the pregnancy, or to give up the baby for adoption. By bringing the baby to term and then choosing adoption, she can turn the "unwanted" baby to a "wanted" child for other parents.

You're right watchmkr. We should force a woman to incubate a baby for somebody else because the ones at the orphanage aren't fresh enough.

@johnny appleaseed- don't quite understand when you are saying about orphanage arent't fresh enough? In term of what?

he is perfect-a mediocre hack pol who lost his last election despite using homeless people bused in from philly to promote him as a democratic!!!candidate in black neighborhoods. Hmm, a lying, cheating loser with religious pretensions...

If Matthew Naugle is unhappy with the pick, I assume that other conservatives will be up in arms as well. That means it is good news for the rest of the Republican party.

Why on earth is Mr. Obama's FEMA failing so miserably to help the poor frozen folks in Kentucky? Could it be that he hates white people, and wants them to die?

Indeed, the unanimous GOP congressional vote against We The People last week proves the change from post-WWII heroes led by President Eisenhower to the Boehner-Limbaugh led GOP congressional traitors against America today.

Why Obama won was that a large percentage of GOP stayed home. They did not like McCain, including Rush Limbaugh. Sometimes you have to burn down, to build up. With McCain in power, a new GOP could not emerge. Now it can. The Party can go back to Barry Goldwater. McCain was a nut case, he lost his mind from 5 years of torture. Steele will have to bring in the money, if not, he will be out like the Hispanic before him. We true conservatives say it is either our way or the Obama highway. Some voted Obama to punish those hypocrites in the GOP and against the Liberal, Bush.

@Abe, "McCain was a nut case, he lost his mind from 5 years of torture."

Wow. Even the most die-hard liberals were reluctant to say that. We could have, but that fact-based thing we do got in our way.

When looking to see who burned down the Republican Party, sniff to see if Limbaugh and Palin smell like gasoline.

We should care about both

Honestly, I can see both sides. Some pregnancies can be dangerous for the mother, which can put her life at risk. At the same time, ending a pregnancy early also kills the child. I don’t know if the mother’s life or the child’s life is more important. We really need to think about both sides and maybe find a middle ground.

What about adoption?

Because I am Pro-Life, I think it is sad the abortion debate never talks about the third option people have for unwanted pregnancy. People only talk about aborting a pregnancy or raising an unwanted child. What about adoption? These women who do not want their children can give them to a deserving family who very much “wants” them.
