"Trash" Is the New N Word

| Mon Mar. 23, 2009 2:03 PM PDT

Right wing hateration against the Obamas (and black people in general) continues.

Someone named Tammy Bruce, guest hosting for Laura Ingraham, waxes philosophical about "the trash in the White House". According to HuffPo's transcript, the psycho-pundit said:

"...You know what we've got? We've got trash in the White House. Trash is a thing that is colorblind, it can cross all eco-socionomic...categories. You can work on Wall Street, or you can work at the Wal-Mart. Trash, are people who use other people to get things, who patronize others, who consider you bitter and clingy..."

Really, you have to listen to believe. I have to hope she was high because it's pure insanity.

Loco as this is, HuffPo also links to a Townhall piece which tries to fake deep thinking proving that Michelle is...wait for it...a bitch. Think even THEY couldn't be this pathetically obvious in their need to keep the Negroes in their place?

"The burning question in my circle is: If the First Family gets a female dog, will she be the First Bitch or will she have to settle for second place?"

OK. I gotta ask: Where is this moron's circle, exactly?

This is hilarious. The

This is hilarious. The irony is that most "trash" either doesn't vote or votes republican.

Sieg Heil Baby

Yeah, WE *trash*---and OUR man in the WHITE haus ain't nuthin' more than an uppity nigro.....

By that definition, trash in

By that definition, trash in the White House is nothing new. In fact I would suggest that that definition applies to the last several Republican presidents.

It's DESIGNED to frustrate

It's DESIGNED to frustrate and hurt people. The reality is that the Obamas, by virtue of being educated and having rather particular, progressive lifestyle tastes, do NOT resemble our collective concept of trash. That is why comments like these are so gulling. It's meant to demean their stature as well as being a coded racist term. One side note: I read somewhere that the Obamas were decorating part of the White House from Pottery Barn. I'm still vomiting over this. As an interior design consultant, I'm appalled. As a supporter of smaller business models and someone who tries to avoid feeding the mega corps, I am offended. Please, someone tell me this was just a rumor.

Pottery Barn for the kids' bedrooms

Yea, this is in the news. Personally, I think it's great to decorate the kids' bedrooms affordably. They'll grow out of it soon enough. I'm glad that the Obama's remain sensible and down-to-earth. After having the "Haves and Have Mores" in the White House, it's a fantastic change.

please define Affordable?

Pottery barn is affordable for some people, but its not like they're decorating with stuff from Kmart or a garage sale or hand-me-down from a cousin - like so many of us must do. sure, its nice to hear she's not spending $12,000 on a twin bed, but come on... "The grow out of it soon enough." - not to mention they may only live there for 4 years... why they get so much to redecorate is beyond me. Appalling really. Maybe Tammy Bruce just doesn't like potterybarn... some of it does resemble trash - at least for the price...

Against the person

These kind of ad hominem attacks are the refuge of people who either know they can't win people over on the issues or don't understand the policies of the person that they are attacking. I've never listened to Laura Ingraham's show, but I recall that she was one of the people recently using the same devices on Megan McCain, although attacking her appearance rather than her ethnic background (which is misguided, Megan is gorgeous!). Most of these critics have not studied economics or the law, and don't have an understand of the concepts sufficient to allow them to comment intelligently. Is there a conservative version of Rachel Maddow (referring to her education)? Anne Coulter, I suppose, would be the closest.

From her own website:

"Tammy Bruce is an openly gay, pro-choice, gun owning, pro-death penalty, voted-for-President Bush authentic feminist. " In other words, she thinks one thing and says another in order to make money. God Bless America!

There's nothing sensible

There's nothing sensible about throwing money at mega corps like Pottery Barn when the White House has storage rooms full of furniture that have been gifted to and left by past first families. Reusing these stored goods with perhaps some reupholstering here and there would not only be thriftier, but more ecological and would not be supporting the consumer driven vacuum that business models like Pottery Barn exemplify. I feel that places like that are testimonials to all the shallow false-value driven consumerism of the mid-90's through the current recession. Hate to sound like I can't let it go, but I can't. It is a terrible decision from the first family, and, yes, I do think their decisions are powerfully symbolic and that I have a right as a citizen who voted for them [and generally thinks they are doing fine] to criticize.

To Paul Miller: Food for thought. Thanks.
