New Documents Confirm Cheney's Office "Lost" Plame Emails
Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), which sued the Bush White House over millions of missing White House emails, has released a treasure trove of documents relating to the loss of the emails. We're just beginning to go through them, but CREW says the headline item is that the documents seem to confirm that emails subpoenaed by Patrick Fitzgerald regarding the leak of Valerie Plame's CIA identiy were among those missing from Dick Cheney's office.
Update: You can find the documents here.
Update 2: I just spoke to Anne Weisman, CREW's chief counsel. She says these documents, are just the beginning, and CREW both wants and expects to receive more from the Obama White House. This set of documents was originally provided to Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.) by the Bush administration when Waxman began investigating the missing White House emails case, so they just represent what the Bush administration was willing to release (albeit to a Congressman, not the public) about its own failings. Obviously there's much more—Weisman says this is only a "very small percentage" of the material CREW needs to understand exactly how the White House could lose several million emails.
Weisman says that these new documents do little to allay her concern about the timing of certain gaps in the email archives of the Office of the Vice President (OVP). "I find it incredible that then-WH counsel Alberto Gonzales gets a call from DOJ saying they're opening this investigation and everything has to be preserved, and then the days immediately following that [call] there are OVP emails missing," she says. Maybe Gonzales forgot that he was supposed to make sure everything was preserved?

Holder will follow Bush AG's Lead
Holder shows every indication that he intends to follow the same path of obfuscation and defense that Gonzales and the Bush Era AG's blazed. The rule of law and Constitution be damned. Will Archibald Cox please answer the phone?
Cheney's emails
Any competent computer hacker can tell you how to recover deleted emails, so long as the hardware still exists. If Cheney didn't have them remove the hard drives and burn them the material is still on the drives. I haven't heard a word about anybody examining the drives, just how millions of emails are missing. We know they know how to recover them because a similar incident occurred with DoD hard drives which were thrown out after deleting information on them. In that case it just took someone familiar with the "undelete" command to pull out the secret files. If they are seriously trying to find out the truth they will rip those drives apart and get at the "lost" data. Otherwise, it's all bullpoop and this President is owned by the same people who owned Bush.
As a 30+ year Federal
As a 30+ year Federal Government employee, the homes and offices of the employees should be searched. Despite the attempt for a paperless office, it never happened. Every employee I knew (including myself) always printed out copies of important documents--"just in case". This was necessary because if you needed the document when the system was down or there was an upgrade. Many upgrades in the last 10 years involved the changing of storage mechanisms; e.g., 8-inch floppies, 5-inch floppies, CDs, flash drives, etc. My resume is still on an 8-inch floppy that cannot be used in any of the new computer systems. Fortunately, I am retired and living in the wonderful, beautiful Seattle area where we haven't had rain for the longest time. Anyway, I believe that there is some employee with paper copies of all important documents somewhere; and, the appropriate authorities should smarten up and get a search warrant to look through all these employees' papers.
"Otherwise, it's all
"Otherwise, it's all bullpoop and this President is owned by the same people who owned Bush."
That HAS the ring of truth to it.
But don't forget Clinton and Bush I and Reagan, no wondering about why the media still hates Jimmy Carter. He's the last one not owned by those same people.
Re: Cheney's emails
If you know what you are doing, you can make it very very hard to recover anything at all from those hard drives. The days of naively thinking that "delete" is synonomous with "unrecoverable" are long since past. I full expect Cheney and Addington to be smart enough to know this.
I recall reading a news story about them a mishap with a computer security guy who had been called in to wipe out some hard drives, only it was found to be obstruction of justice because it was known to be evidence that he was wiping out. Or something like that.
Do not ever think of Cheney as stupid or naive.
The shadow government that
The shadow government that runs our country for the benefit of the rich privilidged class has been at the controls since they asassinated the President and got away with it. Most Americans are too scared to believe it because it would rock their world, and then what would they do? So few even get out to vote, which doesn't matter anyway. Either you are voting for one of the two pre-selected non-choices or they simply skip the vote and have the supreme kangaroo court dictate the outcome. We now exist in the Corporate States of Organized Crime. It is time we find out who is behind the curtain pulling the levers of the great Oz. Come on media of America, name names and publish some bank account records of people like Bush & family, Cheney and Halliburton and the handful of peolpe who supported their regime. Although stupid or naive is probably what Cheney thinks of most Americans, I think of him more like a traitor and despot.
