Bush's Alzheimer's Drama And Other Tabloid Political News

| Fri Jul. 17, 2009 10:17 AM PDT

We haven't heard much about the former President Bush lately, but this week, the Globe is reporting the delicious (if dubious) news that former President Bush is suffering from suicidal depression "since leaving his office with his legacy in tatters." Making matters worse, Laura supposedly thinks he's come down with Alzheimer's because he keeps forgetting to call Dick Cheney. According to the ever-reputable Globe, Laura, described as loyal and long-suffering, had moved to Dallas without him, repulsed by his "out-of-control boozing." But she's now sticking by his side through this latest drama. Says the Globe:

"She's actually afraid he's going to wander off into the fields on the ranch and forget how to get back to the house."

Meanwhile, the National Enquirer is reporting that the REAL reason Sarah Palin quit her job as governor is that she's afraid of the coming firestorm promised by, yes, Levi Johnston's tell-all book. "She's bracing for what Levi may write about her," declares the Enquirer. And updates on the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter scandal: "Could their lovemaking have been videotaped?" Inquiring minds want to know. But you'll have to buy a copy for the inside dish. No links! The tabs are strictly a paper product.

Now I get it

Remember Stephanie, you're writing for news junkies. It took me a bit to get the point, because I assumed "Globe" referred to the Boston Globe, and I couldn't imagine them reporting like this. Eventually I figured out there must be a supermarket tabloid by that name.

And to think it's the Boston Globe facing financial problems.

shame

Mojo!

Please don't tell me you've stooped to regurgitating the tabloids, no matter how much in jest, in this space?

I'm sure there's something wittier, more intelligent and more worth reporting than this. As it is this piece is worth as much as the typos it contains.

I come here to escape the sh*t sandwich that American Journalism has become -- please don't let me down!

Disgusting

Yea this post is rancid. Its practically criminal. Using a word like delicious for something as horrible as 'suicidal depression'. Ive always loved MoJo in almost every aspect, for the past year and a half i have read everything on the site every day, but this left a bad taste in my mouth.
National Enquirer reference on MoJo? I thought 'alternative' still meant 'responsible' and 'credible'.
I want Ms. Mencimer and other readers to know my ultimate disatisfaction with this post. Whether you care or not.

Bush Alzheimer's???

How could you tell?

If Bush were speaking

If Bush were speaking coherently, eloquently and intelligently, I'd be running for the bomb shelter. Babbling dementia is the statistical norm, in this case.

@ Dingoangst

Well said for asking the most pertinent question.
I have to say that if W did feel remorse for a legacy worse than any other man to occupy the office of President of the USA (inc. Nixon) he'd have more intelligence than I gave him credit for.
