Henry Louis Gates Jr. Arrested Breaking Into His Own House

Apparently Henry Louis Gates, Jr., noted Harvard professor, was arrested trying to get into his own house:
Black scholar Henry Louis Gates Jr. is accusing a Massachusetts police department of racism after being arrested while trying to get into his locked home near Harvard University.
Police say they were called to the home Thursday afternoon after a woman reported seeing a man try to pry open the front door.
They say that they ordered the man to identify himself and that Gates refused. According to a police report, Gates then called the officer a racist and said, "This is what happens to black men in America."

I know several people who need to be arrested for breaking into their own house, but he is not one of them.

Imagine that- another whiny black man playing the race card- of course, if someone had broken into his house he would accuse the police of being racist for not protecting him.

What as asinine remark. To equate having your home broken into with being arrested for breaking into your own home. I'm not black, so I guess if I were to be arrested for breaking into my own home, after presenting my identification (with address), I would be a "whiny white man". Because I can guarantee you that I would be PISSED. And obviously he was just "playing the race card" because we all know that there is no such thing as racism in America. More likely it was due to prejudice against intelligence, since we also know that has been becoming more and more prevalent.
The police say he refused to identify himself. If that is true, then he IS a whiny idiot. If you are confronted by police while trying to break into a house and refuse to identify yourself, the police should assume you are breaking the law. Show your ID and clear it up! The linked article DOES NOT indicate he showed any ID, with or without his address.

Fair enough. But this article (which is what I initially saw) http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/07/21/massachusetts.harvard.professor.arre... states that he showed the police both his drivers license as well as his Harvard ID. Now you *could* argue that the police would never lie, and I would have to call you a fool. As you point out, it would seem to be most likely that when confronted by the police investigating a possible break in one would show their id when requested.
But I doubt that either of us will ever know the truth of the matter. However, for the anonymous poster to immediately castigate him as a "whiny black man" indicates a lack of objectivity, and a likely racial bias.

a whiner is a man who steals another man at gunpoint and forces him to do work he,s too lazy to do,and makes shore that man is always out numbered.he'll hide books but from the the person whose life he's stolen yet cry foul when he finds out that the stolen man can read . he claims to be the best at fighting , inventing,basebll, race car driving,building,as long as the other man is locked out cause he knowsthat if the other man were to get in he would no longer win all the time and knowing all this makes him whine. we'er talking about a man thats been beat'n like a child in a disfunctional family and never told the world and the week person giving that beating knowing he had law and numbers on his side whinning cause even thou he had free help he still coud not compete my friend you are the very definitionof a whinner!!!

The Barney Fife doughnut munchers strike again. Imagine if Skip Gates had been a concealed-carry permit holder. No need for front door keys, and no need to worry about Barney Fife. Cops and criminals are terrified of concealed carry, and they DEFINITELY don't hassle people who are armed.
