Jesse Ventura Body-Slams the Climate Change "Conspiracy"
Jesse "The Body" Ventura, the erstwhile professional wrestler, Navy Seal, motorcycle gang member, and governor of Minnesota, has embarked upon yet another career: investigator of nefarious plots. This month, Ventura launched a show called "Conspiracy Theory" on TruTV which claims to shine light on "the most frightening and mysterious conspiracy allegations of our time." So far Ventura has explored whether 9/11 was an inside job (he doesn't buy the 9/11 Commission's official explanation) and whether the government is testing mind-control weaponry at a secret base in Alaska. (Conclusion: "I learned that radio waves really can get inside your head. They got inside mine.") And in another recent episode, he takes on "the global warming scam."
"Whether global warming is real or not, some people may be using the issue to earn billions of dollars, start a one-world government and control people's lives," warns the teaser on the website for TruTV (formerly known as Court TV). In the show, a voiceover promises that "Jesse Ventura finds the direct link between global warming and a plot to rule the world."
Enter Ventura, who spends much of the 60-minute show skulking around in a black leather jacket, meeting gravelly voiced informants in abandoned warehouses for no apparent reason. "I never thought I'd be investigating global warming. I believe it's real and that saving the planet is good," intones Ventura. "But now I'm on my way to see a guy named Noel Sheppard. He says he has proof that some people are using global warming as an excuse to make money and control the world. That's a conspiracy I want to expose."
Ventura sets up a "clandestine meeting" in a deserted San Francisco courtyard with Sheppard, who is described as an "investigative journalist." This not-exactly-elusive figure—he is a writer for Newsbusters.org—has it on good authority from Russian tabloids that "the earth is now on the brink of entering another Ice Age." He also believes that the occurrence of snowstorms disproves global warming. Ventura learns that climate change may in fact be a vast and elaborate hoax—perpetrated, as he puts it, for "Power. Money. Control."
So Ventura dispatches his team of expert investigators to uncover the truth. These super sleuths fail to locate the thousands of scientists from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change or other preeminent institutions who have spent years studying the phenomenon of planetary warming. Instead, they visit three scientists suggested by Sheppard.
One of Ventura's hard-hitting investigators—June Sarpong, formerly a reporter on a British youth entertainment show—travels by what appears to be a passenger ferry to an undisclosed location to meet Dr. X, a scientist who is "hiding for his life." June frets that someone is following her (presumably someone other than Ventura's camera crew). In order to protect Dr. X from the climate change mafia, he is never named and nor are his credentials revealed. Sitting in deep shadow, he reveals that while he believes the planet is warming, the culprit isn't carbon dioxide. It's the sun. "There's absolutely no question the sun is virtually ignored by the authorities," he says.
"If global warming isn't man-made, why are they telling us it is?" asks June. "Because they're using it as a vehicle for political control," Dr. X replies. "Control every aspect of people's lives, the number of children you can have, the number of people on the planet, where they live, what they can drive. Everything."
Other interviewees include Lord Christopher Monckton, perhaps the wackiest and best-known climate skeptic, and Richard Lindzen, an MIT atmospheric physicist and contrarian extraordinaire who claims, falsely, that the global temperature has "stopped increasing." (The show doesn't mention that in the 1990s Lindzen accepted at least $10,000 from fossil-fuel industries to dispute the existence of climate change as an expert witness before Congress and industry-sponsored events.) Ventura's team also solicits the opinion of a "conspiracy expert"— who turns out to be Alex Jones, chief 9/11 conspiracy theorist, radio host, and head of InfoWars.com, the web hub for the tinfoil hat club.
The tough questions are reserved for Benjamin Santer, a climate scientist at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Sarpong grills Santer about Monckton's allegations that he "cooked the books" on climate change in United Nations' reports. "Lord Monckton, to my knowledge was not part of the process," Santer points out. "I was." The investigators also grill Amit Chaterjee, CEO of carbon-monitoring software firm Hara. As Sarpong presses him for answers about his relationship with Al Gore (a partner in the venture capital group Kleiner Perkins, which backed Chaterjee's start-up) and the sinister business of carbon reduction, Ventura bursts into the room, demanding answers about Gore's motives. "If this is a war on the environment, there are going to be profiteers," he says.
Ventura ultimately decides that Al Gore is not really "trying to control the world." "I know Al Gore," he says. "I don't think he’s out to do that." Instead, Ventura reveals, "the hunt leads to one man": Sir Maurice Strong, the former executive director of the United Nations Environment Program and, according to Ventura, the "wizard behind the curtain" on climate change. Wait, make that two men: Ventura also sees a culprit in Edmond de Rothschild, the billionaire banker who died earlier this year. These powerful figures are perpetuating a massive lie in order to profit from carbon trading, Ventura and his sources allege.
Ventura's team is never able to actually talk to Strong, despite a few more secret meetings in warehouses and a trip to China, where Strong now lives. However, one of Ventura's investigators reports via webcam that he has concluded that "Strong's a double agent, pretending to be an environmentalist, but really he's been working as an adviser to the Chinese government, and helping them make money off global warming." As with most of the allegations in the show, no evidence is given to support this claim. And it's safe to say that Ventura isn't exactly skeptical when presented with outlandish theories; in the pilot episode he insinuates that the government may have caused Hurricane Katrina and the Indonesian tsunami with a weather-controlling "death ray."
In his final summation, Ventura doesn't actually say whether or not he thinks that climate change is real and caused by mankind. "I'm no scientist. The conspiracy theory here is a scare tactic to control people, make billions, even trillions in profit," he says, stone-faced. "Al Gore, you’ve been a real inspiration. But a lot of other people who preach the global warming gospel aren’t out to save the world. They’re out to run it."

It is true that polar bear populations rebounded after over-hunting was restricted, but that situation has nothing to do with the threat polar bears now face: the loss of the sea ice habitat essential to their survival.
And here's the probable source of your misinformation (as I suspected) - Fox News, which states:

First of all, they got the decade wrong; it was the 1960s, and, as stated above, that's because hunting has been severely restricted since then. Now, however, the polar bear population is on the decline again, but climate, not hunting, reasons.

That is the thing about humans: we think we are preserving a species if it exists only in zoos. We aren't. It only lives at our behest and it might as well have gone extinct.

The 5000 bear figure is what we scientists like to call a "wild ass guess". It was an estimate made long before there were reliable surveys of polar wildlife and has virtually no basis in anything other than conjecture.
The truth is we don't know how many polar bears there were in 1950.
What we do know is that their habitat is now rapidly shrinking to the extent that they are endangered.

Here is an extrordinary Claim __ With 100% positive proof
Global warming is far worse than we humans on Earth have been advised and within as few as 10 to 15 years, perhaps even less, it is quite likely that ALL life on Earth will be eradicated. __ That life included Jesse Ventura, you, me and our children, dogs, cats, polar bears, aardvarks, etc, etc.
Here is why it is likely and I will submit the proof and or links in the following comments. For starters, most scientists and those scientists and world leaders at the Copenhagen Conference ignored the very most serious threat to ALL life on Earth, __that soon to come threat is: ___ The release of the 400 gigatons of Arctic methane gas.
It has already begun and as the gas that released from the Arctic area of Earth last year contributed to the CO2 already in our atmosphere, positive runaway feedback will insure that far more gas will release next summer and continue every year. Global warming will advance to a stage where no one can imagine. Methane is 20 times as potent as a greenhouse gas as CO2 is. There is enough methane in the Arctic to increase the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere by 3,000%.
Here is SOME proof, __ I won't post all of the proof easily available to anyone, but I will tell you where to look for a whole lot more. __ Let us go back into Earth's past history for a few minutes.
635 million years ago and again 55 million years ago, almost all life on Earth, life down to the microbal level, was eradicated when methane gas burped out of the ocean's sea beds and large areas of land. Those events have been well proven 100%, by the highly respected and regarded by his peers, __ Dr. Michael J. Benton, a professor, geologist, palientologist, scientist and author.
Any here who have more experience and education in those fields who wish to say he is incorrect, please step forth and give us your wisdom. I for one sincerely do wish he was wrong. He is not alone however, there are thousands of scientists who agree with his expertise and studies and conclusions.
When those two long past events occurred, methane was released slowy at first and as the methane entered the atmosphere, global warming increased and the feedback cycle began, it became warmer, more methane relaeaed, that increased temperatures and more methane was released and so on. __ Sort of like, you smack Jesse Ventura in the head and he hits you in the head, after awhile the blows increase in intensity and speed until someone dies. ___ Probably not Jesse.
After a few short years the Earth was warm enough to allow vast quanities of methane to release, massive ice shelves which were present at the time became unstable and collapsed, that released pressure on the methane clathrates which then degassed. Massive amounts of methane gas then "burped" out into the atmosphere and almost all life suddenly just dropped over dead all over the entire planet.
A good test of that process would be to turn the gas stove on in our home without allowing it to light. Then lay on the sofa and see how long it takes before we die. Indeed million of tons of methane gas was seen broiling and sometimes spewing out from the water's surface. I'll assume that you'd agree that there were no cars burning fossil fuels 55 million years ago - or people, for that matter. So, this kinda blows the entire "anthropogenic" part of the global warming debate, doesn't it?
If Mother Earth (or the sun, maybe?) decides to "leave the gas stove on" for a few hours/decades (just as a test, of course), there ain't much we can do about it.
Cows emit more CO2 than cars and planes (UN report - google it). Not to mention methane - though, I don't think that's from "burping". Now you're gonna tell me you want to kill all the delicious cows, aren't you? If I'm going to be eradicated, I'd rather not be starving at the time too!

From reading your comments here Al, it is obvious that you have a reading comprehension disability and you are also not well educated on the subjects of carbon dioxide and methane gas and or what is Okay for nature with those two greenhouse gases and what's not.
Pay close attention now Albert and perhaps you will learn something, or at least check out what I will offer for your education. Of course all of what I will offer is already available on the web and written by people who are a hell of a lot more educated on the subjects than I.
Number 1.__ That is correct Al, __ first it is CO2 and then it is methane. As I wrote previously, EXCESS CO2 in the atmosphere, that which is above what nature can deal with, about 230 to 240ppm, will cause GW and then methane begins to release into the atmosphere.
Methane is a very potent greenhouse gas which is over 20 times more potent than CO2 is Al, so the added greenhouse gases cause GW to become more severe and then more methane gas is released. It is rightfully termed FEEDBACK Al. Anything written there that you don't understand Al? Read slowly and attempt to keep focused on the subject. As all of this has already been written previously and you failed to get it and you wrote a very ignorant reply which should be an embarrassment to you. I'm trying to help you here Albert. ___ This not a speling lessin howevor.
Number 2__251 and 55 million years ago, there were no automobiles. You get a gold star on that one AL, you are correct, that is because there were no humans either. At those times excess CO2 which caused GW was emmitted by very heavy volcanic activity. GW increased, then many tons of methane gas was released and the feedback cycle began until eventually methane was so thick in the atmosphere that all life died, __almost all, some bacteria and deep sea life, etc, survived. Ya got that Al? Ceck it out, many of the best and most qualified scientists and geologists alive say that is what transpired.
Number 3.__ Yes indeed Albert, cows emmit more CO2 than autos do, so do termite farts believe it or not. Lotta termites on the planet and all they mostly do is eat wood. I'm not being a smart- ass there Al, it is true about the termites giving off more CO2 than anything else. Well that's Okay Al, Mommy Nature handled all of those __natural__ types of CO2 emmissions for over four billion years.
When EXCESS CO2 was released however, _ f or any reason, _ from volcanic activity, __or humans burning fossil fuels __ which is now equivalent to that of 17,000 active volcanoes, then GW begins and after a few short years the methane gas begins to release, like it has already begun in the past few years. A three minute read Al and it is easy to understand what the author states. What he warned us of when he wrote it five years ago is now happening. I agree that my posts are sometimes rather lenghty, but I have a lot to say on the issue because it is the __ most important __ subject ever. Why so? Because I know of no other issue which threatens ALL life on Earth, it's worse than an atomic war. Got that Al? Although I am a late reader this really is a great discussion and KemPatrick, even though sparks were flying, your information is appreciated. Sorry forgot the methane part--yes cattle manure does emit a tremendous amount of methane depending, of course, on how it is managed. A milk cow out in the pasture drops a very flat liquid "pat" that dries up immediately and emits very little if any methane. A large pig factory of hundreds to thousands of animals housed together with an automatic cleaning/feeding system and little or no sunlight or air will create a tremendous amount of methane so bad it is affecting the lives and crops of farmers who suffer along side these pork factories.
Take a ride out into the country and see how long you drive before turning off outside air in your car.
Prevent is management of methane production and businesses taking responsibility for changing their "for profit only" attitudes.

Global warming has reduced the ice flows in the north, meaning that the food chain is disturbed. More food for the polar bears today at least until that food supply is ran extinct. When that happens what will be your excuse?

This group consists of scientists from all five signatories of an international agreement to protect the species in 1973, as well as researchers from other nations. It is non-profit and has no other aim than the protection of this amazing animal. They make clear their scientific procedures, thus ensuring transparency and accountability.
If it is argued that this group is itself untrustworthy, then another group's estimates should be cited, with the burden of their enhanced reliability put on the claimant.

Their population has more than tripled in the last 50 years and are among the best swimmers on the planet. Al Gore is evil and even though global warming/climate change may be possibly happening it has little or nothing to do with individuals. If you care so much about the environment than ban corporate polluting don't implement a system which will allow these huge industries to pay to pollute with a carbon trading scam that will enslave individuals to the whims of these corporations...Peace.
Cap and Trade...
The original idea or model of a cap and trade system for carbon was thought up at the now defamed Enron Corporation. It is entirely a way for Wall St. and commodity futures traders to make trillions off of global warming. I do not support cap and trade while I do support mandatory reductions of all polluting emissions of any kind and also the reduction of solid industrial waste. We simply have to mandate reductions and give companies support in reaching those goals. Cap and Trade will be abused and it really does nothing to address reduction of emissions. It's already being gamed by many corporations including GM. Mother Jones herself did an excellent piece on GM's purchasing of rainforest in Brazil to offset their carbon emissions. But, they're not actually reducing emissions. Cap & Trade is a scam, people. Do we really want to put Wall St. in charge of combating global warming? I think not.

This illustrates a common misunderstanding. Emissions trading does not look to reduce any single entity's relevant emissions. Rather, the goal is to reduce the sum total.
Cap and trade is not the best solution, but... What is not being said lately is:
A. It is not new, and back when it was simply "emissions trading" it was the 'free-market capitalist' and conservative economic policy wonk's wet dream, the ideal "market based solution" and the law since 1990.
B. It worked. "... Despite powerful resistance, these allies got the system adopted as national law in 1990, to control the power-plant pollutants that cause acid rain. Thanks for your post - I find it fascinating that these so-called skeptics sound the alarm on climate-change-as-hoax as though the money and political power were firmly in the hands of environmentalists, scientists and clean energy proponents while ignoring completely the gigantic vested interest of Big Oil and its subs and bought politicians in denying climate change and the human causal component. Does it never occur to them that they're lined up behind the status quo of fossil fuel dominance and are anything but skeptics? They're status quo enablers. Following the money works, but only if you follow it to where it actually resides, not where you think it may lead if your conspiracy theory pans out.

the truth is we need ecological solutions. The truth also is that some people excel at positioning themselves to benefit or profit from any situation. Is it feasible that someone foresaw all of this flurry of activity and decided to use it to maximum benefit? A la Naomi Klein's Shock Doctrine theory? People in fear are falling all over themselves to give someone the power and responsibility over them to control this ecological issue that most barely understand. Countries everywhere, including the United States are lining up to throw money at the problem.
Big Oil could just as easily slip into the next room, put on a different suit-coat and hat, to suddenly become Big Eco. Or the people behind Big Oil could do just that. Or position people they trust to influence the ecological debates.
The bottom line here is take nothing for granted. There are those who are serious about ecological solutions, and there are others who are merely out to prosper however they can. This is how life is in most other aspects, so why should Climate Change be any different?

I wonder is Mr. Ventura will be doing a show next on all of the research that was buried by the Bush administration, or the allegations by NASA scientists that they were muzzled, and that monitoring programs were suspended in an attempt to limit the amount of damaging information. Damaging in the sense that it would be that much more difficult for Big Oil to maintain the charade that A) There is no climate change and B) They're not responsible for that non-existent climate change.
Yes, Ventura, there is a conspiracy! But the conspiracy is one being perpetrated by Big Oil against freedom and democracy FOR Big Fossil and their obscene profits - not the other way around.
