Gallows Humor on Climate
Climate change was apparently a laugh line in Barack Obama's State of the Union on Wednesday. Here's a video, where the laughter at the line, "I know that there are those who disagree with the overwhelming scientific evidence on climate change," is audible.
It's hard to tell whether Republicans are laughing at the idea of global warming, or if Democrats are laughing at Republicans for being skeptics:

Maybe
it was laughter at the implication of those who "disagree with the overwhelming evidence"
The evidence is not overwhelming - it's interesting. The counter-evidence is quite compelling also. The jury is still out. Only those who want a certain outcome (for or against) warming pretend to know what's going on.
WRONG
YOU ARE WRONG. SORRY.
...
NOW PLEASE GET OUT OF THE WAY SO OUR CHILDREN HAVE A FUTURE. THANK YOU. BYE
Listening
Jason Pratt's comment was respectful and thoughtful. We don't need to be kneejerk about what or who is right or wrong.
It's very, very scary to know that with or without global warming, a safe, secure and beautiful future for our children is uncertain. But they will have a better chance when we begin to listen to each other.
More wrongness
For many years, hospitals around the world had been warned that germs were causing infections (doctors frequently delivered babies right after performing autopsies - without washing in between.) And yet the evidence was "overwhelming" that it was caused by body humours, not the actions of doctors.
It was only the patient persistence of Louis Pasteur and his proteges, with their germ theory, that were able to make sure that science prevailed and overturned the conventional wisdom.
Eventually the truth will come out on the climate issue. Just this week, some new findings on water vapor were reported that contradicted past understanding. Our knowledge continues to evolve. We can take prudent steps now, while continuing to learn more.
Those who feel that "cap and trade" is a non-prudent, non-solution should not be villified. Perhaps they will turn out to be the Pasteurs of this issue. Think about it.
