Amy Poehler, We Love You Too
The Hollywood Reporter recently gathered Emmy Award nominees Amy Poehler, Sarah Silverman, Christina Applegate, Jane Krakowski, Mary-Louise Parker, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus to discuss the entertainment business. Surprisingly, the conversation turned to Mother Jones:
For the record, Mother Jones doesn't have an age limit for our cover girls.
On the other hand, we do have strict accuracy requirements, and it's a pretty sure bet that our team of fact checkers would catch a discrepancy like casting Amy Poehler to play Rachel McAdams' mom (she's only 8 years older) or Sarah Silverman to parent Jonah Hill (a 13 year difference). Then again, this is the same Hollywood that thought we'd buy Winona Ryder as Zachary Quinto's Star Trek mom—she would have been a mother at the age of six.

For the record
The age thing in Hollywood
The age thing in Hollywood movies is unbelievable. I remember watching "Next" and thinking, what does this Jessica Biel character (25 years old) see in the male lead (played by 43-year-old Nicholas Cage)? But then as I watch, I see how pathetically shallow the Biel character is (dumb as a rock, totally bland, and without charm), so I wonder how HE can stand to spend time with her. And then there is the Julianne Moore character (47, smart, active, and complex), so I'm rooting for him to ask her out. In fact, I'm screaming at the screen, "Find out if she's married!" But at the end of the film, he goes on at great length to the Biel character about how he's going to have to be away for a week to save the world, and can she keep her knees together for that long? And they both furrow their brows and are very uncertain that she can.
Real men (such as I am myself) like smart women who've been around long enough to develop some personality. No man would ever be bored or indifferent to any of the women in this panel. But Hollywood? Pfah!
