Arpaio Rebukes DOJ, Will Train 881 Deputies For Immigration Arrests

When Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio tweeted yesterday that he would announce a change in his department's enforcement of immigration laws, I knew we were in for a ride.
Fresh off a federal court victory that vindicated Arpaio's decision to force a mentally ill inmate, Eric Vogel, to wear pink underwear under his striped jail uniform, Arpaio's office announced that the Sheriff, who became a hero of the right for cracking down on illegal immigration in Hispanic neighborhoods, will train all 881 Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies to make immigration arrests.
This is a sharp rebuke to the federal government, which stripped 100 of Arpaio's deputies of the right to make immigration arrests in the field last October. At the time, Arpaio vowed to continue his policies regardless of the Justice Department's instructions. Yesterday's announcement shows that Arpaio still means business.
Arpaio supporters claim that his tactics preserve states' rights as guaranteed by the Constitution. But critics say that this is merely an excuse for the Sheriff to implement an anti-immigration agenda that is fueled by racial profiling. "Sheriff Arpaio is a demagogue, and his use of immigration as a pretext to gain notoriety is old news, " said Chris Newman of the National Day Laborer Organizing Network.
"Good for Joe Arpaio!" says former Sheriff Richard Mack, who now runs the No Sheriff Left Behind campaign urging local Sheriffs to disobey unjust federal orders. "The Sheriffs of this country have an obligation to uphold the law and protect the citizens from illegal immigration. And when the feds don't do their job, it leaves it to us to clean up the situation."

How the hell is Holder supposed to go to war with DoD to close gitmo if he can't even stand up to this fat shit? Oh yeah, I forgot. It's political and Rahm says we can't worry about geese on the tarmac (gitmo) when we're trying to do important things like criminalizing people that don't have health insurance amd making sure paulson keeps his title.

Having lived in Phoenix for a few years I can absolutely assure you that Arpaio is overwhelmingly supported by the people of Maricopa county. His only opposition comes from the usual suspects:
ACLU, Democrats, leftists, immigration whores, minority "rights" whores", - you know, a who's who of anti-American kooks!

The sherriff has to be elected by (votes). Arpaio always wins the elections by an overwhelming majority of votes.. That is a poll one can believe.
He also is not against immigration at all, many of his deputies are Latino or Mexican American. It is (illegal) immagration, drug trafficing, stolen vehicles, etc, etc, that he is against. He is upholding and enforcing state anf county laws, which he was elected to do. He does that very well. He has never been arrested or convivted of breaking any laws. He's a good cop, we need a lot more of them and our crime rates in th eUnited States prove that is so.
It is also very sad, sometimes tragic, that so many very good people in Mexico or South American countries wish to come and live, work and be good American citizens in the United States and most can only do so by by sneaking in. Our flawed imigration problems and the politics and corruption of government agencies in Mexico are not Arapio's fault and are beyond his control. Those issues are not his job.
Pink underwear, only the Disney channel on TV, green dyed balony sandwiches for lunch, living in tents, etc. Like he says, __ "If you don't like it here, don't come back". His return rate is far lower than other comparable jails in the U.S.
Are his methods radical? __ Yes indeed theyare. They work though, there are no gang wars in his jail, no drug dealing, the inmates recieve excellent medical care if needed, their diet is satisfactory, but they don't like it there. So what? When released, "Don't come back".

None of the inmates like him, but the large maority respect him and his methods. They are in jail for breaking laws and they have lots of time to think about what they have done. They don't want to come back either and that's his point. He isn't in competition for a popularity contest, he's running a jail not a country club and he enforses written laws. He's not a Nazi, a traitor or a brown shirt. Grow up and wake up.

Yeah the DOJ is alright, just ask the prisoners at Gitmo. They need to clena up their own act before worrying about a county jail in Arizona.
